How Do I Start Filing Taxes?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by touchAshley, Aug 18, 2012.

I do web design and create websites for clients. I need to start filing taxes but I have no idea where to start. I know I need to:

Keep track of payments from clients
Keep track of my expenses for the business/tax write offs

And that's about all I know. Where do I go from here? How do I file? When do I file? What do I need to file? Thank you! I just need some kind of beginners guide.

I would look into talking to a CPA, they can answer all of your questions to make sure you follow all laws of your state and the US. It might cost a little more, but it will help you in the long run from running into IRS penalties.

That's not bad advice, but honestly just get yourself some quickbooks and it's pretty easy to do. I believe it's 1099 misc that you would get from doing contractor type work for designing websites for clients etc.

I would go with a CPA. Honestly it's only a few hundred dollars a year to not have to think about any of that stuff. It's worth outsourcing.
