How Do Larger Websites Manage All Their Sites Content?

    How does a site like this: www.topix.com or www.citysearch.com manage all their content on the site? Are they using RSS feeds to pull in data, site partnerships agreements, employees or contracted writers?

    I'm in the process of building a local website and am trying to figure out the best method to manage these sections starting out:

    - City Entertainment
    - City News
    - City Movie Times
    - City Events

    1. To what extent can you use RSS feeds?
    2. How would you recommend starting out with this type of website, without having to hire 20 writers to provide enough content?
    3. Is there something that I am missing?
