How do Proxies work?

Discussion in 'Content Management' started by Nima, Oct 18, 2007.

I am looking into starting a small proxy. But have some questions:

    - When a website is run on the proxy, is it using my database and bandwidth?
    - What is average age of a proxy as they get banned often?

    Thanks

Proxies do not require a database, although the will use bandwith...and a lot of it if it gets big.

Proxies don't necessarily get banned? So I don't know what you mean by that.

Proxies tend to use a lot ( A LOT!) of bandwidth..
But not db.... dont use db at all ( from what ive seen..)

Your Hosting service might shut you down ( too much bandwidth being used)
The users of the service ( work people and students ) might have the site blocked by thier school/work.

One idea is to use dynamic or many manual subdomains to avoid the site getting trapped in school/work web tracker software.

I can recommend a very good host with Unlimited Subdomains if you are interested...

Lots of bandwidth? Ofcourse.. request coming in and going out through your proxy will eat up your downstream and upstream bandwidth respectively and then there's the reply coming in and going to the one who did the transaction.

Database? Unless you want to keep logs and transfered it into database it won't eat up any database.

And the avarage age would depend on the amount of victims who reports frauds coming from your proxy.. hahaha...

If you do it right, above board, there is no reason to get banned. Take care of your bandwidth, that's the main concern. There are a couple of proxies that I have been using for several years now, and they aren't going anywhere any time soon.
