Your view does not represent the sole view in psychiatry. There is now a consensus among many psychiatrists that alprazolam (a so-called 'high-potency' benzodiazepine) poses a particularly high risk for abuse and dependence.

You're entitled to your opinion. But you are not qualified to be telling people their doctors are wrong to prescribe this type of medication. And you are absolutely wrong in your apparent estimate of the risks of these medications, yes.

I used to be afraid of heights myself & those old Ferris wheels that used to go upside down. I actually went Bungee jumping once out of a Hot Air Ballon & now I love to go on Roller Coasters. This past summer I went on King Da Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure In Nj. It's the tallest & fastest roller coaster in the world.

456Ft High & 128 miles In 3 seconds. As far as your Flying In a plane is concerned, I would just tell you that unless you go In a SuperSonic Jet airplane rides are Boring. The most exciting part for me is the takeoff & landing. The rest just makes it seem that you are moving slower then you are In Traffic on a busy road. I know planes go really fast, but when you are In the air it just seems like you aren't going fast at all.

Just relax & keep your mind occupied. Try reading a book or bring a word find book with you. If you do enough word finds, you would be surprised how fast you got to your destination. Ciao

Read that story more carefully.

It isn't (or should not be interpreted as) a condemnation of all antidepressants or even all SSRIs even for pregnant women. The study is about PAXIL, which for some people is known to have some very difficult discontinuation effects, especially when stopped suddenly. It is partly for that reason that the use of Paxil is declining.

There is no question that any pregnant woman should be reevaluated as to her medication needs and the potential for harm to the devbeloping baby. However, as even that story points out, there are also some very adverse effects on the baby of untreated depression and anxiety disorders, and the actual risk to the baby of a medication varies considerably with the medication.

If you're going to continue to post these anti-medication stories, "Hon Daddy Dad", at least try to be balanced about it.

The fact is sometimes (not all the time) your profession in some cases does more damage than good.

Just because somebody is a doctor or a psychiatrist doesn't make them above making mistakes or even having a fundamentally flawed basis for making a diagnosis.

 

And what makes you think they are not?

I have never claimed infallibility for psychology or psychiatry or any branch of medicine for that matter - where did you think I even suggested that?

On the other hand, unlike many newspaper reporters and apparently you, I do know the difference between anectdotal "evidence" and research using control groups, double blind procedures, etc. I don't see how unnecessarily scaring people is helpful.

I was on a low dosage of prednisone for 2 weeks that messed with my mind- I actually felt almost like 2 people: 1. the normal me - peaceful and calm 2.somebody who wanted to beat up everyone.

I now know why all theses guess who use roids have anger problems, add 200 pounds behind what it did to me LOL..
