How Do Your Manage FAILURE?

You are probably already familiar with the story of the frog who was boiled to death. The frog was in a water-filled pot on a stove.The heat was turned up one degree at a time. Eventually, the frog boiled to death. Oftentimes, in our IM careers, we can IDENTIFY with that frog.


What killed the frog? Two words: COMFORT ZONE.


The frog got used to the temperature of the water and there was enough time for him to adjust as the water got hotter and hotter. Until it was too late...
All of us have comfort zones. Our zones give us reassurance. They give us a safe place to stay instead of facing our fears and anxieties outside of the zone. The problem is.... the longer we stay in our comfort zone, the more it shrinks.
Eventually, our comfort zone becomes a PRISON. Every day we spend inside that prison we are FAILING. Failing to build our skill sets. Failing to build courage. Failing to seize opportunities. Even if you are making money in your comfort zone, all it takes is one change for you to become broke. Don't believe me? Ask guys who used to make bank with Windows Media player's auto switch function. Ask guys who used to make bank running yahoo chat bots before the system applied captchas. Ask guys who built thin EMD sites. The list is endless.

That frog could have jumped out of the pot ANYTIME. But it didn't. It figured the FEAR of landing somewhere WORSE is worth more than any problems staying in the pot. The frog's FEAR killed him. Will YOU let your fear of failure, disappointment, and hardship KILL your dreams?


If you want to KEEP your comfort zone, you should PUSH its boundaries. Take risks. Build your skills. Broaden your expertise. Don't stay in the same place spinning your wheels.

Look at your browser history for the past few days.


Do you see a pattern?


Do you do a lot of exploration and checking out information and skills-building sites? Or do you browse within a tight collection of sites? If you answered the FORMER, you are doing well. If you answered the LATTER, you need to start branching out because your comfort zone is quite tight.


You don't have to make money now to WIN. As long as you are GROWING and LEARNING, you are building the foundations for victory.


The solution is to get TIRED OF FAILING. Get so sick of it that you make a daily list to broaden your knowledge, conduct experiments, and build your resources. Keep trying. Keep experimenting. Keep tweaking and fine tuning your solutions. Sure, its frustrating. Sure, it can be long and drawn out. But you only need to look at the ALTERNATIVE and you'll quickly realize that there is only ONE WAY to get to the top-persistence and constant effort.

Any failure is an experience. It shows you how you shouldn't behave in future. As for me, in any failure I always try to find some stimulus for my future development. Do not think too much about your misfortune, try act better, try to be the best and one day you surely will be!
