How does a website make money

Hi all.

I have a question.

HOw can a website make money.

Meaning, I spend time to develop a site. Maintain it and keep it working.

Does anyone know what the possible avenues of revenue are?

Any business plan that could fly?

There are actually several ways to go about it:

1) Adsense. Create a site that has a lot of good content, put adsense ads on it, then work to improve CTR on adsense ads within Google's TOS.

2) Affiliate Programs. Create a site and through reviews or other content, promote affiliate programs

3) Write your own ebook

4) drop ship/wholesale reselling

5) Sell something you make

These are the options for directly monetizing a website.

ok i got the pdf part, any insight on how these people make money off of them. I mean its strange, we have made quite a few sites for customers that sell ebooks but don't know how they make it.

Its pretty simple, for each e-book they sell, they make that much money. As for clickbank, it is an affiliate site.

 

Domain parking revenue

Invest in domain names, park them and with the revenue you can pay your hosting, keep money and continue developing your actual project in the mean time, because it may take some time before you get money from sponsorship and direct sales, not to mention time and effort invested in promoting.

 

A comment on this.

I would consider adsense as a supporting or additional income but not as a prime source of income.

also, alot of people i think won't click on an adsense in comparision to a normal link because they know it is an adsense.

now some adsenses got me, like the ones on wisegeek.com, but i contacted google and they said that to get an adsense like that i need to get premium services and for that i need 20 million page views per month.

so the next site we're working on, im going to go without the adsense.

i mean for $49.99, I could get a paper book from amazon.

 

But then you have to wait for shipping. People are not patient in general, if they want the book, and it seems appealing to them, they may pay a little extra to be able to read it at 4am if they really want that.

how does one make money with a parked domain. I mean it is just sitting there in park with its engine turned off.

 

Usually, parked domain use services like sedo.com to display ads on the domains.

 

I know that feeling.

the time is about right when i would click that buy now button, 4:00am.

but i still have yet to buy an ebook.

 

is taht what all those ads are on those parked domains?
