How important are ad groups in YSM?

Or should I not care and just create new ad groups so that I can have more keywords? I'm asking because I thought I would promote a campaign and make an ad group for different categories relating to that group. For example, if I was doing ringtones I would create an ad group for each of these categories - phone type, carriers, songs, and artists. Is this necessary? Thanks.

Ad Groups are very important in Adwords, but I am not sure about their importance in YSM. I would like to hear some advice too.

Yeah that's why I'm asking... I was told that it doesn't really matter in YSM, but I wanted to make sure because I've also read on other blogs/websites that it is.

I'm new to this too, I wanted to see how the different networks so I made 2 AdGroups. I for Search one for Content and ran the same ads with the same keywords in both groups. I'll stick with whichever performs better. Otherwise, I dont see any other way of differentiating the two.

Ad group helps you to match your ad text to keyword(s). So, if you are to create an ad group for each category, I would say you're on a right track.
That will help you pay attention to each category separately.

It is obvious that other PPC engines are following Google's example, therefore, whatever you do at Google you should do with others too.

    Hi Everyone,
I don't use adgroups with YSM, but you should remember:

If you place all your keywords that contain XXX in it into 1 adgroup, you can create an ad that contains XXX in it and it will appear bold. This might increase CTR.

If your ad groups contain different keywords and therefore different targeting & relevancy, it might be a good idea to target the URL's per AdGroup and delete the non-converting as groups. This might take time, but testing works.

Hope this helps. I should be using Ad Groups but I'm a little lazy....

I recommend using ad groups in Yahoo for more targeted ads. Better targeting = better CTR = more qualified clicks.
