How long b4 a backlink is counted in the serps?

Just curious what the consensus is about how long it takes for the SE's to count a new incoming link towards the value and position of a web site?

For example, I add a link on site a to site b. We'll call the day it's spidered and cached as day 1. How long do you think it takes a SE to calculate that link towards the site it points to? Instantly, a few days, the next algo update?

I haven't seen a lot of discussion on this and I'm just curious what the majority opinion is on this.

It depends if the Sandbox theory is true or not...

If it is, It will probabally be 3 months or so...

Would depend on where you are between two Google updates...

I only see big BL changes once every 20-30 days or so.

Back links are counted internally towards ranking before the are publicly reported.

SO the sandbox is nothing to do with it?

I have heard so many things and seen a lot on the sites I work on...

I dunno, Backlinks in yahoo for 1 site are about 180 odd, and in Google about 12. Most of those links went up in the last 2 months (5 or 6 a day)

well, google doesn't show ALL backlinks. it's just a selection of them; usually they only show PR4 or higher.

the ones lower than PR4 (and the other ones not shown) still count, but they just don't show on a link: search.

Where does google get the PR of some of these forum links then- is it the Archive that carries the PR?

The forum itself carries the PR, and is passed down to the individual forums and posts just like any other website structure.

I was convinced of that for a very long time until I was proven wrong...

I'll find the link: request again then link to it later... (A PR3 showed up in the results)
