I read through the thread and its interesting -- but I've been online for over 10 years so I don't remember my first dollar. :) I would be interested in learning who supports themselves/family working from home online?

I also agree with everyone, education/training should be the first thing you do when looking to start an online business/career. You have to build up a large range of skills that doesn't happen overnight. But its also important to remember, as a small business you have to communicate well too!

I support myself, my son, and live a great life all working from my living room and sometimes from my laptop in bed. :) No long commutes for me since my office is a walk down the hall. ;)

I think that most of what we do is a cumilation of our education (e.g. school, reading, etc.), environment raised in, past business experiences, and a drive to create/build something out of nothing. Nothing happens overnight.
