    I feel sentimental today. :D
Seeing how it's been exactly (in August) three years since I bought my first computer (not including the commodore 128 I had when I was 8), two years since I started painting and designing in Photoshop and about 6 months since I started my dating website (personal/digital art site still pending- I'll finish it next week) I've been getting curious about other peoples stories and humble beginnings.

Let me hear some statistics from you.
How did you get into this whole webmastering/seo business?:)
What made you give it a try?
    How long ago was it?

Let me be the first to add...

First computer: 6 years ago, on credit with my wife's (at the time girlfriends) permission

Graphics: I feel like I haven't even started yet.

Website: Started my first website on homestead, which was originally free and part of geocites. I have now progressed to running my own server at home and hosting mulitple websites on the server.

SEO: Didn't start until about 4 months ago and when I stumbled upon DP. I have since become quite good at it as a result of the other people on here. Someday, I hope to repair the favour....

PS: I think your website looks great! Keep up the good work.

    First computer 1990

    first site www.schoolies.org.au (aug 2003)
    second site www.homeless.org.au (sep 2003)
    third site www.life-coach.org.au (feb 2004)

    Started using adsense last month
Made my first adwords affiliate sale last night $40 (yay!)

I'm a Social worker and we wanted a website for our charity, I established the charity with a computer programmer. I told him we needed one and he said if 'you want one you learn how to write it yourself I hate the bloody things and you are too damn fussy you fart ass around about the way you want it and drive me crazy - do it yourself.'

So i did - and find it a great way to wind down and take a break from my day-job which is very demanding.

I lived with my parents at the time, they bought an apartment to rent out for holidays, ventured onto the internet for the first time from a web cafe to try and find them somewhere to advertise the apartment.

At the time companies were either too expensive, or didn't make me confident that they knew what they were doing. So in July 2001, I bought a PC, connected it to the internet, designed my first website. The website got around 50 uniques a month, only had 2 clients including my parents and the website was run as a hobby in my bedroom.

Two years on, it's now a growing company, has over 600 clients, received over 80,000 uniques in Jan 2004, and is now run from an office in Leeds, England.

I went to visit a friend in the summer of 1995 who had just purchased Laura Lemay's book on learning html in a week. Read the book and made my first web that summer. It is amazing to me to see how things have changed since that time. I find old timey webs much more user friendly. They were designed for useability not spamming the search engines.
