How many times a week does your browser gets hijacked?

This really sucks. Every now and then...at least once a week...when I open up my explorer page I see a new kind of search home page.

No matter how much I try, the bloody hijackers come out from some corner of my computer. I have tried Adaware, Hijack this and many other good tools.

This is getting really frustrating.

 

I never get hijacked because I use Operaâ„¢ and Firefoxâ„¢

 

I use Internet Explorer and I never get hijacked either.

See Basic Computer Security and save yourself a lot of headaches.

 

Use Linux && Firefox, and never worry about browser issues again.....

ALL browsers and ALL operating systems have vulnerabilities. You do no one any favors by pretending otherwise.

Use sound basic security measures - you don't even have to pay for them any more because there are good freeware options for all aspects of computer security.

And once you've done that, add in a little common sense. I have NEVER had a virus infection and I've been on the net for over 10 years now.

I also fear you have alot of other Malware & Spyware Problems that you really need to take care of...

You also need Ad-Aware, A-Squared, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Ewido Security Suite....

You can find links to them here G4tv Tech Support...I'd download the Free versions of these and then install them and look for updates for each program...

Once you have installed & updated all of them, if you using Windows XP turn off *Restore* Shut the computer off and then restart in safe mode and run each program and clean whatever they find... Once Clean turn Restore back on and then shut down again and restart... The reason to turn off *Restore* is that alot of Malware & Trojans convince Windows they are needed files and need to be backed up... Sooo the next time you happen to do a Restore, BANG!!, you just reloaded them..

If your not comfortable with doing any of this then go here to the Forums and Sign up and post *All* the Specs of your computer and the problems you are having... The experts there will help...

Any Idiot that tells you to install and run Highjackthis with out you knowing how to read the logs is a *MORON*...

Malware & Trojans are a Nasty Bunch and cleaning the Registry from a Highjack this report can end up just making matters worse... Some of these things need to be removed in an orderly manner because if not they will cause other problems...

There is a reason why people spend alot of hours online in Highjackthis Forums learning to read these logs...

 

You most definitely have a spyware/virus. Try spybot search and destroy. If that doesn't help you might have to do a clean install.

Oh and minstrel, have to agree- I've never had a virus with all the years I've been on the net (since DOS really ).

 

A *Clean Install WILL NOT GET RID OF THEM* because Windows does not know where they hide... A Reformat most of the time will, maybe....

 

Umm do you even know what a clean installation is?

 

After about 25+ years I'd say I do... And it's not like a reformat... Windows will only Overwrite Windows Files in a Clean Install nothing else that is hidden and possibly in another *Created Folder*... And if you choose a new Folder for the *Clean Install* the problem is still there...

 

YEah... ITs a cool search thingie...and i think person who must have made this malaware must be some real ass..and have lot of free time on his hands.... I also see new icons on my desktop..... porn...downloads... etc....

it changed my homepage, and i couldn't access my hotmail account anymore. it's spyware

the only thing left for you is format your computer or use firefox. i tried to delete that thing for over 4 months and it didn't work!!

 

Stop posting your own brand of crap.

Look at it this way - it's a statistics game. Most net zombies use Windows and IE. The vast majority. Therefore, most viruses, hacks, and highjacks are written for that platform.

That's why it's statistically safer, by a *vast amount*, to use Firefox and Linux, or Mac, or anything besides IE and Windows.

Everyone makes mistakes, no matter how good you are with your 'net habits. But keeping Windows up to date, is just not enough. I am a Computer Science major, who has never had a virus, because I practice, as you say, this 'common sense'. I keep on top of patches and security updates in the few odd cases I actually *have* to use Windows.

The other day, I had IE open on a Windoze machine to test out a web page, and I quickly needed to look up a bit of information. I visited a different page, and promptly Norton went nuts, before it just dissapeared, a bunch of dialogs opened showing system files being copied over in my windows/system32 directory, and promptly all hell broke loose. Assorted programs began installing themselves all across the system, etc. etc.

And this was on an extremely secure, up-to-date development system.

When I made an attempt to save it, by rebooting it with a Knoppix-based recovery CD I made, the initial virus scan showed 40-some-odd viruses had installed themselves, and many of my system .dll's had been replaced by infected copies....

No matter how good you are, because Windows/IE is targeted because it is the platform of choice for so many people. And sometimes, virus writers get ahead of the anti-virus companies, and Windows' security fixes. But not too many people target Linux, at least at this point. That is why I suggest it as being a safer alternative over Windows.

 

But what about the icons it creates on the desktop..where the hell do they come from...

Mine never gets hijacked. Last time I experienced that was back in the IE days. I now use FireFox + the NoScript extension to make sure no site can install stuff without me knowing it (java(script), flash and shockwave - all client side stuff is blocked by default). Because FireFox doesn't know what Active-X is, you also save a lot of trouble coming from that department.

Add to that decent browsing behaviour, like not visiting dodgy sites, and you're pretty safe.

With similar efforts and a little more, the same standards can be achieved with any other broswer.

Absolute and utter crap. If this even happened at all outside of your vivid imagination it most certainly was NOT on anything close to an up-to-date and secured system.

Oh, and great joke about "Windoze". None of us have ever heard that hilarious gag before. I was a bit disappointed that you didn't add the always hilarious M$ gag while you were at it.
