I got a temporary ban. It lasted for 7 days due to infractions. I misunderstood the rules. I read that affiliate links were allowed, but I didn't understand that they were NOT allowed in posts (they are only allowed in signatures).

It was just a misunderstanding, but now I know.

    And it's working. :)

I loved DP for many years, but when Shawn stopped loving DP I did also.

I hate to criticize Shawn, but he abandoned this place without creating and implementing a reasonable plan for succession.

We're now online only until someone with ill intent utilizes a security vulnerability in this old version of vBulletin. vBulletin 3.6.8 PL1 was released on 18 October 2007. That's darned near "forever" in Internet time.

Many, if not most, of the mods are working very hard to keep this place going.

Unfortunately, their efforts are sabotaged by the carelessness of a few mods.

Take a look at the blog comment Pranab posted on Slyvisions today:
I hadn’t used my DP account for a couple of months now, so I was surprised when I received a reply to a thread I knew I never posted on. Turned out someone else had accessed my dormant account, and posted a overly-positive report for some product that was being sold.

I’m not entirely sure how the person got access to my DP account - since (I actually coded a popular encryption/security app) I never ever use weak passwords. I suspect either someone had stolen data using malware/cookies, or that a Mod was involved).

Anyway, I logged on to DP, and found two posts made from my account.
    I took the following steps:

    1) Changed my DP password
    2) Posted on the thread, that people should disregard my positive review.
    3) Edited the most recent of the fake posts (using strikeout)
    4) Reported the other post of mine to the Mods, with an explanation and request to delete it.

The next day I log in to DP to see what’s been done, and what do I find?

    1) The fake post with the glowing review has been kept, but my post alerting people to the fake post has been removed!
    2) I am now banned permanently for Multiple Accounts.

Huh? Multiple accounts? I never had a multiple account anywhere in my life. Also I suspect this is not a mistake, since my positive review was kept and the later post removed; I fully suspect that atleast one DP Mod is being a bit dishonest here.

The best part is that if you have been incorrectly banned for multiple accounts, how do you let a Mod know? You cant even create a fresh account since now that would be a ToS violation! And e-mail to webmaster/support/whois just bounces.
That would be a terrible story, if it was unique. Instead, this sort of thing appears to be happening every day.

That sort of behavior from the mod team is not what will keep Shawn's creation alive.

i totally agree with everything Will.Spencer said... DigitalPoint is one of the TOP Webmaster/Internet Marketing Forum. but its being ignored from years.. We need a major improvements in sections, MOD Area, Security, Scamming etc.

if Owner doesn't have time he can hire someone to do work.. :)

Hmmm... You don't think maybe it had more to do with you posting that link in the Underground and talking about the site being hacked? Last I checked the Underground was not part of the adult forum. Adult links are not allowed in sigs either. ;)

You have never received an infraction for the thread that you linked to, that's why it hasn't been deleted.

Well, solidstate wasn't exactly a newbie. He's contributed 1,461 posts to DP.

He was trying to avoid being banned for thread bumping, so he created two new threads. He was banned for creating duplicate threads. :p

DP is likely playing soccer in a minefield. :D

Breaking one rule to avoid breaking another? What's the point of that?

Honestly Officer, I was only swerving all over the road because I didn't want to speed...

And how do you know it was just 2 new threads? ;)

So what are we supposed to do when:
    • We sold our last widget and we have no widgets left. Then, we get in a new widget.
We can't post in our old thread "Hey, I have new widgets!" or we'll get banned for thread bumping.

We can't post a new thread, or we'll get banned for posting duplicate threads.

I've got an IQ higher than 99% of the people on this planet, and I can't figure out how to follow the rules in the B/S/T section while still getting business done.

The P&R sections rules are at least easier: Support Obama or get banned. :p

Interesting. I remember. So it has nothing to do with selling my porn site in the adult forum. It has to do with my hacked site in the underground forum...Get it now.
So, it is not allowed to put hacked site URL in the underground forum. Get it now.

For the signature, I'm positively 100% sure I never put a porn sig in any of the forum I'm a member to except GFY...Because at least, I know that rule...

Link to the widget thread in your sig. ;) As long as the thread is open, it should be assumed that you still have widgets left to sell.

Not everybody can be on the first page of a B/S/T forum.

Not if it's an adult URL. ;)

Not an adult URL or not an adult site?

It can't be only an adult URL. And my URL was not linked to an adult site...Just by clicking on the URL, the banning mod would have seen that it was only a Saudi hackers homepage...
While the URL had no doubt about porn, the site had no porn on it...
