How Much 4 Unique Content

Discussion in 'General Business' started by just-4-teens, Jul 28, 2005.

Ive just hired a teen to write unique articles for my site, the first (and only so far) article he wrote was actually pretty good, loads of content and interesting, on-topic etc.

my question is how much are these type of articles worth?

    Depends on allot of things.

You could always do an income share and share a % of what his articles earn.

Pay him what he's happy with.

Gambling content goes for about 3 or 3.5 cents a word from freelancers, but we're a high margin business. I'd say a couple cents a word is probably more than fair.

Plus, no offence, he's a teenager, smaller sums of money mean more. I might scoff at a cent a word, he might be estatic.

Im a newbie when it comes to paying for articles... I just paid someone $30 aus for an article which was about 1800 words in length and included some great pics. I think there's a few things to consider when it comes to rates... obviously a huge factor being the quality of the material, their qualifications, not so much as a writer, but in the industry that their writing about, how often they will write for you, and so on.

and ofcourse the style of their writing. Many writers write with hard and expensive sounding words, but most visitors don't get that. Make the articles for the dumb people and you will have many more visitors who will read them, because they understanD!

Helps in the SEs too since people usually search the "dumb" words.

It is not that your writing has to dumb, you just need someone that can write to a person and not at them. Then it is more like they are reading what a friend wrote to them instead of some sells ad or an article that a technical person. It just needs to be down to earth and understandable. :)

Read the portfolio of the writer you are considering. If you feel comfortable with their writing style, that is an important factor. If you need someone who can research and write unique and intelligent articles, you should expect to pay more than you would for articles that are mass produced that you might see on other websites.

You can use one of the many "hire a freelancer sites" or just post an offer on a few forums like this or sitepoint and you'll probably get a response.

I always find it amazing how much writers undervalue their services, especially considering "content is king" on the internet.

Not all of us undervalue our services. ;) When I attempt to charge a price that is fair to both the client and myself, I am frustrated when I see some ads online offering "1,000 words for $2". Many potential clients will jump on the bandwagon and not be concerned about quality - just price. Researching a topic takes time and that has to be factored into the price. There are also some writers that have prewritten packages that they sell to more than one person as opposed to writing unique articles and giving all rights to the client. You get what you pay for in all areas of life!

I've just started a project via elance for some articles.

$100 for 10 x 500 word guides on my chosen subject. This is slightly more than others normally pay on elance but the articles need to be researched and technically accurate.

I shall post my experiances once the projects finished (and I remember to)
