We shoot the commercials, we create all the newspaper ads, we create logos and spend time Trade marking the company. We have important pages of site added to the library of congress for copy write protection, we set up billboards in selected cities, we create the radio ads, and we consult with lawyers for state-to-state advertising. Example: Timeshare sales and tours are highly involved and subject to stiff penalties (internet timeshare advertising is now subject to braking state law). SEO changes month to month due to algorithm differences, so we consult with top programmers and designers to score all browsers, computers, and markets. We focus on the future of SEO, which is evolving into "all media" aspect. We have our own writers, sketch-artists, programmers, and PR department.

    Example of future:
SE’s will demand actual identity of business owner. They could have an automated process that will call your business line, check for permanent physical address by way of local yellow pages of city where business lays. They could scan archived newspaper classifieds for business relevance, seek out Board of Professional Regulations listings for complaints, Domain lease length, and any other information that would justify website standing and credibility.

When I say we don’t guarantee anything, I mean it. My 20 years of experience in sales, stock and real estate have taught me that.

    I think $225,000 is cheep.

This sounds to me like you take the money and outsource it to other people, i.e the programming, logo design. I would be interested in what sort of clients you have worked for, what their business is to justify spending that sort of money.

$200-300 would be the going rate for seo work from what I see. It is however hard to put an hourly rate for ongoing clients. I believe in billing hourly for the initial set-up and then having an ongoing monthly fee.

So, about how many hours would you dedicate to a $5000 project? I'd just like to get an idea of how much to charge... maybe I can get into this business too :)

    We don't do $5000 projects...

I'm not really too willing to go into that much detail on a public forum I'm afraid. :)

This is marketing though not SEO. The question was how much for SEO work. What you do is more broad than simple SEO and obviously you target corporate clients. $225k for 3 guys for a year is actually a fair rate to any corporation...especially if you have previous work that was successful.

just do some market research and look at sites and phone your competition and ask for a quote, or even still go to a free lance website and see what the average offer is for seo.

I've worked with few new media agencies and managed to get some numbers. For SEO work alone (no offline; very limited design or copywriting improvements...) they used to charge £100k - £150k for a 6 - 12 months contract. Obviously, those were corporate clients.

Cost of acquiring such clients were about £20k per client.
Outsourced work and other costs would come up to £80k.
Profits were from £10k to £50k (rarely) per project.

They did offer some guarantees based on search engine page (for certain keywords) and traffic increases. They mostly delivered, and when they didn't there were financial penalties.

I think SEO is one of those industries where you can charge as much or as little as you want provided you can prove a credible ROI exists.

One model we adopt is to charge a set rate per agreed key phrase per month i.e. £80 per month for each page 1 keyphrase

No charges for keyphrases that drop in the rankings (creates incentive is to get each phrase to number 1 position)

I would not pay $2-800 an hour for anyone's SEO service. That is just too darn much !
