This is true. I've never used a spotter.

Fryman I think thats quite expensive for the gym. About two years ago I joined a gym and went for 6 months an hour and half every day. No difference in body shape.

Then I quit and started doing bodyweight (tabata press ups, tabata squats) and sprint work outs. Cut my work outs to abuot 30 minutes max every other day. (They became way more intense) Started eating wholefoods and got rid of all the protein shake crap. Lost 27 pounds in 2 months and kept it off ever since.

Occasionally I go to the gym (about 5 or 6 times this year). I do compound exercises like deadlifts. Bicep curls and bench press are a poor exercises if you want to get maximum results in minimal time. You want the correct neuroendocrine response. Staying lean is all about creating the right balance of hormones in your body through diet and movement.

Bench and curls poor results? Guess it depends on the individual...

I think he is going to build up strength to fight off kidnappers. Just think how long it would take to update a site with missing fingers.

Hey hrblcantra, it depends on what your goals are. If you want big biceps and big pecs then by all means do bench and curls.

If you just want to stay lean and fit, you will get better results faster, and in less time by doing big compound exercises like, dead lifts, thrusters, push press, squats etc.

These exercises use more major muscles causing you to burn more calories during and after the work out than exercises like bench and curls.

Personally I'd rather be built like Olympic 100 metres champion Justin Gatlin than Arnold - but thats just me.:D

Well yeah if you're going for just overall lean muscle bench and curl is not for you :D

Personally a good mix is the best IMO, such as bench, curl, stationary bike etc..

Yeah, that's true. I'm planning on exercising with free weights for another year and then purchasing a workstation.
I've seen a couple and tried them out and you can do all the same exercises that you can do in the gym and just the same.

Plus you can also bench press in the orthodox manor, legs and back. Sweet:)

personally I think the best excercise is the pull up and you just need a bar to do them

Just did 20 on the stationary bike myself, haven't done that in a LONG axx time....Got through it at a good high speed though... The only thing that sucked was every time the weight was transferred to my poor little footie :(

You need somewhere to put the bar too. :D

Or else your just carrying around your bar and doing bar carries.

ha ha... nah, I want to mark my abs and arms mostly. I have my legs in good condition since I do some biking every now and then.

Hon Daddy Dad, interesting comment... I have enough time to be able to go to the gym every singel day... how long does it usually take to start noticing any changes in your body shape?

I'd say after ten good workouts you'll see a pretty good difference. Maybe a few 15-20 for you since this is all new to you.

If you do a few hundred situps each day you'll see a difference after a few days. Assuming you fairly thin to begin with.

That's what I didn't like about this old gym. I was going every single day for 2 hours for 3 weeks and didn't notice any change at all, I didn;t even feel any difference in my condition and got as tired as always in the cardio excercises.

At this new gym you start with a complete checkup and then they assign a personal trainer to help you get started. Expensive, yes, but I think it is worth it.

If you have much bodyfat around your waist though you won't notice anything. You can do situps all day long and not notice a thing. Nutrition is a huge part of getting good abs unless you have an aweseom matabolism.

Wish I had one of those, I simply hate the people who can eat as much as they want and never gain a pound :D

I've been that way my whole life. I have to drink massive amounts of shakes to gain weight.

I keep waiting for it to catch up to me but it hasn't yet. My dad weighs about 150lbs. so maybe it never will.
