How much is this website worth?

As the title says it all, I am currently negotiating with the owner of this site and he asks me how much I will offer him but I have no idea how to estimate the value of a website so I'll like to seek everyone's advice on this.

It is hard to value the forum worth.

If I were in your shoes, I would ask seller to set the price.

But before all of that, check the traffic, earnings, backlinks, ask to see Webmaster Tools to check some SEO stuff and similar. Judging by number of the members who are curently online on the forum, number of all members ever regiestered, number of threads and posts, I assume that this forum has solid traffic and that you won't get it for less than $500.

 

Buy it, merge it with another website.

 

I don't see any advertizing so my guess would be it is losing money and costing the owner hosting fees, which would make it worth nothing to most people. Most forums I know actually cost the owner hosting plus a lot of time.

I would ask the owner for traffic stats and any revenue stats, most people buy sites for earnings - 6mo to a year worth of earnings. If it has no earning I would not pay more then a couple hundred bucks for it because it will be a total gamble and you will probably lose money.

If you like the form it could be fun and educational to buy it, run it and try to make money. If you don't really care about the forum I would just stick to the revenue or potential revenue.

I'd say 30-35k, websites usually go from what they make in one year. Seeing the traffic they probably make around 2k/mo, multiply that times 12 and that would be your answer

 

in a forum, you can have a huge difference between the number of members and visitors
you need to have a report on the stats before making any offer,
for several reasons,
there are some blackhat script that create fake posts and members,
so you better have some recent stats,
before you can move forward

forum is bit difficult to monitize. this is based on my actual forum. anyway it can still generate money if done correctly.

on the value, in general people just multiply the current monthly income with 12 (one year income). but then again it also depend on the forum niche. some niche are easier to cash in.

 

I buy and sell domains. I wouldn't pay more than $35 for this website, unless you can prove people that visit the site actually buy things.

 

First off, I am the owner of this website and I am NOT in negotiation with anyone to sell this domain/website.

Secondly, the forum value is not fixed so those sites that "guesstimate" the value of a domain based off of traffic and search engine results do not apply to the actual value. I make money from premium subscriptions as well as adsense, both of which are not available to the public to review.

Also, for someone in my position this website brings in even more value. It has earned me a reputation among the community. As you can see, there is a huge amount of traffic for the market being run on this forum. It is the biggest market compared to any Neopets website/community so if I ever decided to sell any Neopet currency/goods, I will be picked first among the other sellers.
