Depends on your portfolio, i charge 25$ per hour about. If its more then four hours or so i drop to 20$.

Many people seem to have a minimum of $50 or so too.

One good way to find clients is to respond to peoples questions in the forum, if you give good quality answers you might end up getting people asking you to do the script yourself.

Well decide on your own hourly price then guess how many hours it will be. Give your client an estimated quote, and if the project is large give him a brief example of how you'll do the project (phases).

Depending on how good you are you can make $1xx / hour. I've made over 100/hour on a few occassions, but the going rate seems to be around $50/hour.. at least with the businesses I've worked with.

I've got 10 years of database development experience, but i do quite a bit of web development as a hobby. I charge $30 per hour for web development such as ecommerce, adsense sites, open source software customiation, etc. I'm not the worlds greatest, fastest programmer, but I can get whatever needs to be done is a reasonable time frame. For more complicated work, such as data modeling, database architecture, and other business inteligence type stuff, I can get quite a bit more than that.

I think unless you're really, really, fast, it's going to be difficult to get more than $30 per hour for a project less than 40 hours. for larger projects, it's a little easier becuase you're willing to commit to more, so they are willing to pay more.

    I charge about $50 - $100 per hour.

Sometimes the project may involve high know-how, so you can't charge the same price :)

These days, you really have to find someone that has no idea about web development, combined with having pockets full of cash in order to realistically charge that much.

I mean, you can get a professional from IBM to come to your house and do things for you for $95 per hour. Seriously, you can.

I generally charge 25 dollars per hour if I know the work. If I am breaking new ground I adjust my price so as not to over charge the client for my research and learning time...

That's a pretty good point. If you have to do alot of reasearch, or if there is a learning curve involved for you, then you should adjust your rates accordingly, becuase it's going to take you longer to do than it would otherwise.

Depends on your client and how many other alternatives he has... if he has someone from india with the same capabilities as you, hell probably go with them since they will be happy to work for much less than someone in the us or uk.
