Are you even using a content management system or are you using flat-file templates?

You have to create your pages from the template and then link them to each other. The content would be the text that replaces the lorem ipsum placeholder text.

You need to open up the template in a HTML editor and edit the content there and then upload
    it to your server.

Here's a tutorial on how to make changes to a template file using KompoZer:

It is possible to give WordPress the same professional look you know. After all, it's just a content management system.
