How to compress a .PNG to decrease load time...

My header is the biggest thing on my website. Both in visual size and in Bits/Bytes size. And its such a drag on my website, and I have a Wireless-N hookup - over 40 Mbps (about 5 MB/sec). Is there a way to compress the bits/bytes size of a .PNG with damaging quality too badly?

The link to see it in action is:

http://www.arcadedistrict.com - its the header at the top

And the link right to it is:

    http://www.arcadedistrict.com/images/Header.png

If it isn't a transparent image, definitely convert it to jpg or gif.

PNG is only good when you need detailed gradient transparencies. Otherwise, don't bother.
