How to Create Your Own Door Hanger

    1.
    Cut out your door hanger. You can either download a template to print onto heavy cardstock or you can cut your door hanger out of scrap card board. Remember when making your door hanger, it needs to be at least 10-inches long and 4-inches wide. The hole for hanging on the door should be at least an inch from the top and should either fit over the door handle or have an opening to slide onto to door handle.

    2.
    Set your background by either painting or gluing fabric or wrapping paper to the door hanger. If you prefer your background blank, that also works. At this point, you should have decided what kind of door hanger your want, either holiday or message.

    3.
    Add your message or schedule. Your message should clearly define what you expect, ("Do Not Disturb," "Come In" or "Happy Easter"). Many people use door hangers to clearly define their schedule, to stop questions like "When are you taking lunch?" "Do you have an opening this afternoon?" If you are going to add your schedule, write times and then what is" scheduled. For example, if you have lunch at noon, your schedule should state: "12:00-12:45 Lunch" or Out to Lunch."

    4.
    Start adding decorations. You can add clip art images to convey the message you are trying to send. Also adding glitter markers or metallic markers can really add some wow factor to your door hanger.

    5.
    Flip your door hanger over and add a different message on the back as another option. This gives your door hanger double duty. You can have an inviting side and a do not disturb side. Or you can post two different schedules that you typically have so that there is no confusion

    [h=2]Tips & Warnings[/h]

    • Be creative when cutting out your door hanger, cut the outside in a wiggly line or with craft scissors. For schedule door hangers, use a printable version and make a master card that is divided by the hours, then you can print one for each day of the week.
