I feel bad for people that are employed in this fashion. Not bad enough however to go through the spiel with them...lol..tell them right off the bat, talking over them if necessary, and let them know I'm not interested and hang up. I rarely ever get these types of calls. I'm so blessed.

Actually it was taken from some webpage after I googled, "This job sucks".

Yeah..they appear to be on top of each other and most of them asleep and the rest half asleep...go figure...

I’ve been in several call centers and I can tell you I feel bad for those people. Most of the times the telemarketers are on top of each other like that picture shows. Many call centers are in decrepit buildings and the telemarketers are usually working in squalid conditions.

The majority of the employees are paid very little. A few people make decent money, but they are normally allowed on the better campaigns and get the best leads. Overseas, the wages are even worse.

For the most part I’m a jerk, but I use a lot of discretion on being one. I try to never be rude to people that are just doing their jobs. They’re just trying to make it like anyone else and a simple, “No thank you. I’m not interested” works just as well as anything else.

If they can’t or won’t take the hint though, by all means I’m rude. I can’t stand some one interrupting me at home and then being rude on top of it.

Depends on the day, but it's always nice to tell them to hang on when they ask for someone, then put the phone down and walk away, see how long they wait for.

Its hard to do that; they call the toll free line way too often. I usually like making the guy hang up on me when they call :)

If you have the ability to place them on hold and then forward the call, via 3-way or other, it can be fun to forward them to Time and Temp, Psych Ward at the local hospital, or why not your mother-in-law ?

Depending on the company, my mood at the time and other factors, I generally try to play with them. Let's face it, most of these cold calls are coming from poor saps who went through a minute of orientation and are following a flow-chart or script. I've brought a few AT&T solicitors to pure aggravation or even tears trying to get them to "do the math" with me on how "x" plan will save me money.

If you have a broadband connection, it's also fun to be looking up information about their company or service and shoot holes or questions back :)

they are a pain in the a** but why not save you and them some time and tell em you aint interested, I know some can get really aggressive (mentioning no names overture) when you tell them you dont want their services and in some cases you have to be rude to get them to sod off especially when they are blocking potential customers from phoning by holding up the line!

I also heard that you can answer the telemarketer that you are a telemarketer yourself and ask them back which telemarketing company they work for, and then they won't bother you again. The reason is because they will not want a competitor to know what they are doing.

That's one of the reasons why I quit my job in the call center. People don't have any idea how hard it is for US, agents, to negotiate with customers on something. How I wish they could feel how frustrating this job is
