how to get a client??

I am not sure this is the right place to post this message. Actually in this
forum i have read that many people are earning from other sources also
besides adsense ypn..affiliates etc. They have client for whom they are working and getting a nice money. So can somebody tell me how to get
these clients.. i know some sources like elance and all but there the competition is so tough.. that you cann't expect the money for which you are working.. some people are ready to work for very very less money.. So can somebody tell me the other ways of getting clients.. i have good knowledge of internet technologies html,javascript,css,php,mysql ect.. know c c++ and a bit of java also..

You could try cold calling companies to make a website for them
A lot of people go out ''hunting'' for clients.
Of course you could wait for clients to come to you but let's be honest only the top designers that are well established in the field could afford such approach and even they go out ''hunting''.

 

1. stick around the forum circuit
2. make a name for yourself - post well...
3. 'listen' for available jobs

I agree. Nice tips. We must create a friendly relation. Everyone should feel that we are available to them at any given time. We will be noticed and known to clients by our regular interactivities with forum members. Our Would be clients will understand us by reading our posts and estimate our knowledge in respective fields. For getting freelance works one has to be patient.

I dont recommend places like eLance, there is always someone in a 3rd world country or under 18 that'll undercut your price. I posted an answer to this questoin some time ago in another thread but here it is again, hopefully it helps. Basically, just start locally. Heres my story:

I first started with my mothers art class which she runs a few times a week in a studio at my home. I would talk to the students every now and then, even if its just a passing "hi, how are you?" as I was on my way out.

When I got the chance I asked them what they did, and told them what I did and in most cases, as I said before people are like "oh my brother/cousin/husband/me is looking to get a website made" and I would take it from there.

Its a little hard to get out of your comfort zone to talk to complete strangers, but soon you will estabish a nice little network.

The best way to get "out there" is to... well.... get out there. Go places, meet new people, let people tell you their problems because you might just be their solution.
