    0.11%

Although most of my traffic is on a forum with a single banner at the top (to help pay for the hosting costs, not to make money), or from a medium sized gaming blog with a single ad unit at the top of the page (again, not to make money, but to pay the hosting costs)

I get around 30-40%. I use the maximum allowed ads ( I think its 3 and one ad unit piece). For me, It's all about mixing it in with your content...Not just having it as a banner, or a side navigation...

I've been monitoring this closely, I was able to push my CTR up to 10-11% by placing many ads throughout the site very tall and stuff, however since I had such big ads lower paying ads were being clicked on (1 cent per click etc..)
    like this: http://www.psdesignzone.com/photoshop-tutorials/create-a-tiny-photoshop-icon.html

Once I switched to this format:

    http://www.psdesignzone.com/photoshop-tutorials/design-the-windows-live-messenger-icon-in-photoshop.html

the click through rate was lower about 2-3% but the payout was much higher, any suggestions for balance?

Do you have a URL to a site that is getting 30-40%, I'd be interested to see it.

my advice, make a simple site, makes sites that are not crazy in terms of nice graphic design, make sites that blend in well with the adsense, even try and trick the viewers into thinking the ads are part of the site :D

Place the ad under your H1 tag as well as end of the article.
    see my blog for example:

Most of the problems with low CTR don't have much to do with ad placement. It relates more to the type of site you have, the type of visitors you have, and the type of ads that are being displayed.

I have written more about this "problem" in this article.

Very true, i've noticed on some of my sites where people are more "technical" they click on the ads less probably because they actually know what they are, if the site is a less "technical" site you'll usually get a higher click through rate because they aren't wise to what AdSense really is and probably think it's a link you made yourself

I'd be happy if I had a 2% overall CTR on my sites. I got like 0.75%
