    Advertising (learn more)

    Advertise virtually anything here, with CPM banner ads, CPM email ads and CPC contextual links. You can target relevant areas of the site and show ads based on geographical location of the user if you wish.

    Starts at just $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC.

How to Get Adsense to better match the content of my sites???

    Hi guys,

    I have a number of directories for major cities around the world and they are ranking very well for the keywords I designed them for.

    I have adsense on them all, but it only gets relevant to the content about 2 or 3 clicks into the site.

    For example, www.sydneydirectory.org will show ads regarding accomodation in sydney when clicking on accomodation, but on the homepage will always show ads such as "targeted visitors" "Search Engine Optimisation" and the like and isnt relating to the content of the site

    Is this because I used a link directory program, or a Dmoz import?

    I have read the article on a previous post of:

    "How do I use section targeting to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to my site's content?

    Use section targeting. On your site, place this code where you want to emphasize.

    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->
    Content you want to emphasize.
    <!-- google_ad_section_end --> "

    Which I found really interesting but dont have the technical knowledge of where to put this script (do I put the meta tags inbetween it) or can I create text such as "sydney directory" "sydney accomodation" and have them in the html coding, but not show up on the page?

    Thanks for your advise guys!

    You have to puy those inside the body tags

    after <body> and before </body>

    Anywhere you want, as long as the content you want to emphasize is there between the section tags.

    Also, you should allow some days for the ads to update. The best way to rush it is keep throwing words at it, I mean content with keywords in.

    Also I believe you could blend things there a bit better:

    left ad unit is not nice. Change the background colour to blend your frame background colour.

    Bottom ad unit is far away from content. put it next to the content and maybe change it to the medium rectangle or so. It usually works better. ;)

    At your content pages (accomodation, etc.) try to put ads on the right of your pictures and your links bellow. This way people may tend to click on the ads before getting the right link.

    Another point (that may or may not be helpful to you) is not to add adsense ads to a page until it is publish-ready. It seems like Google's mediabot only recrawls pages every few weeks for changes in content.
