How to get more Facebook likes (Social media etiquette)

Sharing some tips on how to get more likes. This can help promote your brand and advertise your product. It covers social media etiquette in general as well.

1. Use your real name – don’t try to make it sound cool or use Chinese characters ( specially if you’re not Chinese.)
2. Prevent account hacking. Change your password regularly, every month if possible. It’s quite embarrassing when you send out indecent messages.
3. Use your own photo. I’m sure your pets and kids are adorable but your profile pic should show – you. You can use your kids photos temporarily for special occasions but not permanently. Your child is not you. Also this is what photo albums are for.
4. Don’t tag people with irrelevant products you’re selling. We can’t escape the fact that facebook is a great place to sell, but strategically target who your customers are. This will yield better results than tagging everyone.
5. Socialize – it’s not all about you. Have genuine interest in what other people are doing.
6. Share useful information. Broadcasting if your bout of diarrhea is getting worse is not useful to us.
7. Be positive. Being emo and whining constantly brings everyone down. It attracts bad karma for yourself too.
8. Spell check. Grammar check and don’t use Text talk. Jejemon is so 2009. How you talk and write reflects your intelligence.
9. Limit your status messages. Updating your status every minute is a form of spamming or flooding.
10. Don’t post vague messages only a few people in your contacts will understand. You can just send it as a private message.

Thanks for the tips. Good "general" info but if you need LIKES it is easier/cheaper to just buy them. I mean "cheaper" because what is your time worth?

What I would not do is advertise where I live, what state i am in, and so on, or give a fake name,

Well the points you have explained in your thread doesnot in ANYWAY will get anyone more facebook likes lol !!!!!

Now-a-days to get more likes you either have to use twiends.com or do some viral marketing so that you get more eyeballs and comments for your posts on Facebook

You can definitely pay someone to do it for you but paid marketing can only go so far.

 

Good tips but you forgot the most import one.. Get a Facebook Fan Page!! These are better to do your business on and you can add as many as you like.

 

actually it is not possible anymore to grow your fanpage..facebook closed every other way of getting fans to ur fanpage except their own internal promotion, which is by the way totally useless and extremely expansive) u will remain 100-150 fans max.. the only way which is left - put a widget to ur website, but traffic have to be really high otherwise it is useless as well_)

Are you kidding!! Of course you can grow your fanpage without using facebooks internal promotions. You can still use www.twiends.com (using it right now and have added many new likes) Plus you can advertise you fan page through article marketing, directories etc and then have a link to you fan page and ask visitors to like your page!!
