How to get on the front page of Digg.com

Getting on the front page of DIGG is overrated. I have been there with other sites and just got there cause people liked the articles. Here are a 2 things that will happen:

1 - Your site will get hammered with a ton of traffic and your server will go down unless you have a dedicated one.
2 - No real conversions or clicks come from diggs. Diggers are well educated internet people and they do not click!

 

I have never tried to dominate Digg. I only tried to use it a few times to do a Google Trends promotion. I saw that it is not a short fix unless you get real lucky. But I did see that it can be a great resource.

Here is what I would do if I became seriously interested in exploiting Digg. I would first find some tracking information on what the main articles with the most number of Diggs were over time. I would try to weed out the seasonal stuff and concentrate on the evergreen topics. Then I would focus on one that I knew something about (or at least was interested in) and make a website devoted to that topic. I would profile the readers of that topic with Quatcast and other profiling manners out there, then choose my product offerings accordingly. Probably Clickbank and CPA. Then I would post articles on that site, and post them on other satellite sites linking to it (especially one-shot document sites like Scribd). I would Digg them all and add a few other unrelated news items for variety. Then do the normal social marketing thing (invite friends, send messages, vote on other articles, etc.) found on Web 2.0 sites. All this over days, of course.

This should make for a series of traffic surges over time, even if you never get to the first page. But if you do, your article stands a chance of staying longer than normal.

Agreed. Digg traffic is only 5 minutes of fame, just like a good "Stumble". It won't do much for your ads or other monetizations...it's just a Digg.

I know the reasoning..."If I get a lot of traffic then maybe some pople will like my blog and come back, or become subscribers. Maybe even a few will click an ad or two".

It rarely works that way. Digg users are browsers.
Better to work on ways to increase real readership that lasts rather than waste time on short term tricks.

If you have a good site, you don't need Digg, you'll get traffic, and people will link to you naturally (with of course some SEO and marketing)

 

Ya, I think you are right.

 

I think the main thing is to get a lot of friends, once you post an article hopefully all of your them will Digg your post. Once that happens others will start digging it and there you go.

 

But making friends and asking them to Digg the article, is not an easy task. What do you think?

Hi MrBoss all I can say was.. Digg is looking for quality
and informative articles. But just as what the other comments
here it doesn't last.. there will always a new articles out there
coming up.. so you must make an article that was unique and
catchy..

Yes there is.. you can try to post your digg in different
social bookmarking site and forums.

 

To get listed at first page, you need no only the interesting post but you need to make many digg friends, that's the only way to get listed at the first page

 

you cannot make front page on your own. make several digg friends first.

 

Forget about digg
Their frontpage stories are manually reviewed, that is, even if you have a great story and it automatically gets digged by 100's of individuals, still when it reaches the threshold of reaching the frontpage, it gets manually reviewed before hitting the front page, this was proved by Matt Cutts himself, just go to his blog and you should find a post related to this, i m unable to find it myself
Forget digg and concentrate on google, atleast if you do some hard work you can get some results, unlike digg where if you are not on the frontpage then you are nowhere

 

coming on from page is not necessary, if your digg page is indexed by google or another search engine, and is on first page in a good keyword, that can bring good traffic for long term....

I am getting constant traffic from digg for almost an year using this technique

 

All you need to do is to emmulate whoever on top 3 of digg.com
piggy back what they are doing. Most of these top articles are
with contraversial stories/contents.

Make mutual friends on IM for Digging...
Push it on regular Interval..
make sure you share the links via different channels and story is dugged via diff. referral and diff links...
