How to get rid of Wnfixer?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by unknownseo, Jan 26, 2006.

Anyone ever had to get Winfixer off a system? My daughter somehow got winfixer on her laptop. Damm, this thing is tough. I've tried Ad-aware, symantec manual removal instruction, fix vundo, etc. It keeps comming back. The thinkg is like Jason (Friday the 13th).

    Any ideas? Help.

I do know that webroot spy sweeper cleans winfixer. I do promote it (just to be upfront), and it does have a free trial that is fully functioning. You can download it by going to the site in my signature.

Turn off system restore, then clean, reboot, sweep. If it is gone, you can turn back on system restore.

Webroot Spy Sweeper This is the ONLY fix I found to remove it and I tried everything. I purchased it after the trial period and it catches EVERYTHING. If you try to rename a bookmark it will ask you for permission to do so. Highly recommended.

Thanks all. I have spy sweeper running on one of my systems so I knew the program. Ran it on her laptop with the system restore off and it looks like "Jason" is dead.

man I remember getting that one. Its one of the nastier ones. Glad you got it taken care of. Took me like 3 hours to clean it all off even after system restore and a safemode spyware scan.

    Don't Buy Shi*

Whoooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooo I got rid of that bastard WinFixer.

I spent 5 hours trying to get rid of it. The entire net is trying to get rid of it. It is the devil of all adware. Today I stumbled on a site http://www.bullguard.com/forum/9/Easy-way-to-remove-Winfixer--V_25764.html that has the fix. A guy created a software download that finds the root of this bastard and took it out.

It takes you to another forum where its free and worked great.

    Major kudoo's to this guy!

I am keeping a copy of it on my desktop...

Make sure you do. Winfixer auto-loads itself without you clicking anything. Just browse by a page that has a picture on it, with the winfixer virus, and your toast. All my friends have gotton it and couldn't get rid of it, now they love me....hehehe:D

Winfixer - I had that once and it was so annoying. The experts at the Tom Coyote forum helped me get rid of it but it looks like there are simpler solutions available mentioned in this thread.. Still I would recommend checking out the Coyote forum if you get a virus and are wasting too much time trying to remove it.

It takes less than 5 minutes to get rid of the virus with that link. Bravo Bullgaurd.

HA! I thought I was one of the very few idiots that had it!

Does it also load some websites, randomly, from time to time, or do I have 2 nasties on my laptop?

I'll follow the recommendations I got from this thread in the meantime...
