How to improve earnings per click ?

I've added AdSense to my website a couple of weeks ago.

I've tried to improve whatever I could, like optimizing ad placement, improving traffic and page loads, and my CTR is somewhat satisfactory at this point.

However I am wondering how I can get better earnings per click. Although I have had a couple of lucky high paying clicks (in the 0.50$-0.75$ range), most clicks are pretty low paying.

Is there some strategies I can use to improve the earnings per click on my site ? How can I bring high paying ads on my site ? I understand that the topic of the site has a lot to do with that, but the site was built long before AdSense ever existed so I have to live with the topic :)

Until I get live links, this is my site URL (suggestions welcome) :

    Thanks,

Are you suggesting I randomly put some of those keywords in my page ? Even if they are not related to my content ?

Did you try it on your page ? How so ? What were the results ?

I see a lot of trash talking on this forum but not much *REAL* advice.

You niche/site topic makes a lot of difference. Some keywords are low paying, like those related to cooking, greeting cards etc. There are many other low paying keywords.

Thats why its better to decide your market and niche before you start a site.
