How To Improve Your Ecommerce Website - Tip

Why is it so hard for so many ecommerce sites to get a higher ranking in the search engines?

Pay attention to e-commerce sites that do have a nice ranking - what unique aspect can you see on those website?

    The answer is content.

The days of just putting up a website, uploading some pictures and throwing on "buy now" buttons are long gone. Today its all about content.

For this reason many e-commerce sites are converting their dry picture/buy now sites to an information/pre-selling ecommerce sites. Don't get me wrong: The pictures and buy now buttons are still there but these sites are being fueled with content.

Google likes content - so why try feeding it something it won't eat?

Content and more importantly - engaging your customers! Never forget your customers feedback as they could possibly be repeat customers and provide easy and free advertising too.

There is only so much content that you can have on an ecommerce site. Too much content and you won't make many sales. It's all about balance, content is just one part of it.

Well, i think its not really possible for ecommerce websites to get high ranking just due to content. Its because, if two websites are selling the same product, they will have the same description, many be few words different. However it wont have much effect on their google ranking.
The most important thing to understand is - who really are your competitors. Once you have checked make a list of the sites who are selling the same products.
Now, your work is to check what they are doing better than your company.
And you can do it by checking their backlinks. There are many backlink checking websites. Just search backlink check in google. Now you should do what the other company is doing. First get their backlinks, and then accumulate more backlinks than the other companies. Coz, page ranking depends on the page popularity, the more popular your page is, the higher it will be ranked by search engine.

i think getting really good feedback from your customers will be a good start. If you have a twitter account or facebook page, use those to your advantage! They can help you cre8 the awareness you seek very quickly and easily. Make sure you treat all customers and settle all issues with them in a positive manner so they will be willing to share your site with their network too.

In my experience of 8 years in ecommerce,
the most important factor to make money in ecommerce is not the google ranking, but our products.
In my case, I sell fashion clothing, so I always provide my customers with new updated fashion everyday,
so the same buyers would come back and buy from our website again and again.

Your website is crucial to the success of your online business. You need to make sure that it is unique and memorable but at the same time it's important that the website isn't overly complicated and difficult to use. A clear, concise and easy to use website will always be more successful than an overly complicated and confusing site. If people find a website simple and easy to use they are more likely to use that site again.

Content is one of MANY things a web site owner can do to improve ranking. Google's bots will be interested in coming to your site often if it can always find something new AND unique (not just screen-scraping bs). Not to mention if the content is good, you're more likely to get other sites to link to you, which is really what you need to improve SERP ranking anyways.
It is one of the more time-consuming aspects of advertising, but it brings in the extra eye-balls.

You need content describing what your products are and how they are beneficial, but I don't think you need your ecommerce site looking like a blog. You need to put some time in, and put quality content on the product descriptions. Content is good, but if the visitors can figure out where to go so they can actually buy from you, it's useless. Too many times I have seen people with blogs that contain available products, whereas it should be available products with content built around them. There is a difference.

Thanks gurus for all these wonderful tips. I have just installed my first E-commerce site using oscommerce cart script and was researching on how to get it ranked highly in the search engines. So your tips has really helped. What I don't know is if there is an ecommerce cart with the option of Liberty Reserve and AlertyPay payments.
