How to inspire discussions on Facebook?

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by Anna Cheung, May 2, 2011.

Hey, I want to have more people talk about our brand on Facebook. I'm thinking of creating an event for this, but still not sure of how to do it. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Have you fully segmented your audiences? If so who are they?

Best thing to do is actually ask questions in the discussion boards. That will get the discussions going.

Attack a very controversial issue with a unique and radical viewpoint in a positive but almost belligerently under your skin manner, so one feels pervasively compelled to respond.

Make the event tangible, so there are some people meeting in person and some people interacting online, at the same time by some means or another. A web conference for example. If there are even just 5-10 people in total you can get lots of messages and discussion going back and forth. Then, when people come across it later they will see lots of activity and want to add their piece.

Send out invites like you're having a fake wedding for all the gifts. Leave no stone unturned, but make sure you don't double up or pick people you know wouldn't like another invite in their FB.

Connect your FB page, group, app and profile to each other and your website, and vice versa. Connect your mobile device so you can keep up with it easier and get more content there without being in the office.

Lead by example, if you want people to talk a lot in your corner, you better be there with lots to say.

Always keep your head held high and eyes focused forewards and forward. Just having something to say is not the same as having something good to say. Watch trends, keep track of new things, discuss those. If you have an old topic that's already been done, people are less engaged, whereas if nobody has been talking about something in particular and you bring it up, people are more likely to be interested.

Post short stories to your facebook page. Old Short Stories are really popular among people. They will surely discuss your efforts. You can also draw a cartoon about any hot current issue. This will also push your fans to comment on it.

To have people talking/discussing about your brand is not an easy task. You have to build a strong and targeted fan base first. You must understand who your audience are and what do they like about your brand or business... Once you know this you will recognize what you must share with them... if you have such strategy in place the interaction is likely to begin.

Press Releases can bring you first-page visibility for your keywords very quickly. Sometimes, you can take over multiple spots on the the first page of Google for your keywords.
