How to market a new web 2.0 social/music/video networking site??

Aright guys.
Im currently developing www.Sceneparty.com should be up in around 2 weeks time. It will allow users, musicians, night clubs ect.. to create profiles and to add,message friends,upload photos ect.. Also it will all be revenue sharing e.g members make % of ad revenue. Video uploading ect.. You'll see when its launched.

Well, im thinking right i have $5,000 left after development to market it. Obviously its not $1million to get a banner on digg.com for 3 months so i have to think of other ways to get the word about.

I was thinking Text-Link-Ads.com might be a good idea, to get some ads on music and teen forums but the only thing is there, because the site is new if i go spend $3,000 on text links wont the site go direct into the google sandbox?

Im thinking it might be a better idea to get some marketing via blog posts, stumpleupon ect.. Also i might try Adengage to bring some traffic in, they have alot of myspace layout and arcade sites on there. Once i get a kick back from the site i'll get some advertising on techcrunch and mashable and some other well known blogs. I was thinking about getting over 1milion myspace bullitins but i didnt want to come across as too spammy.

Any ideas?

Don't worry if you dont have a large advertising budget. If your site is buzz worthy your visitors will do the advertising for you. Definitely things like press releases, blog posts and social bookmarkting websites will help a lot during the launch stage.

 

I dont actually know much about press releases. I was thinking if i payed say 50 bloggers to sign up for an account and test it out and give it a review. Then it gets there opinions on it at least as well.

 

Yeah thats a very good idea actually! However use press releases too. Search google for "free press release" and also pay the $80+ for prweb.com, then you'll definitely get bloggers talking...without you having to pay them.

Of course your success depends on how unique and useful others find your site. Good luck.

Sounds a good idea.

Don't buy just blog sites, instead buy blogs, where ppl actually go and have a look. Don't worry about PR, but just plain high traffic blogs.

yeah high traffic blogs were the editor posts good content. i'll find a decent professional content writer for the press releases and sometimes if the blogger doesn't write the post ill get some one else to write it. to be honest i dont really care too much about pagerank i care about traffic and members mainly.

 

Buy blog posts (reviews) on related, high traffic blogs.
Doesn't cost too much and will make a decent buzz and traffic.

 

i dont want to buy them from reviewme or anything because it will clearly say "this is an advertised review" and i want it to be natural you know. I'll buy them from here, iv heard of this payperpost site but i can never get it to work i'd buy some reviews there if they dont say there advertised. I might get a payed review on JohnChow.com that might be pretty decent i dont know. Also i might pay a article submitter to submit some articles for me. I mainly want to launch a really nice buzz about the site so it gets alot of members and we have a really nice community on there.

 

i had an experience about this. i did not speent a big money like 3$ .i have only spent 500$ for buying links from misc. directories. my main site is in sandbox because of this. my suggest is not spending a big money for this. do it slowly

you want to make sure that your not cutting your self short and spending too much...remember its more about spending and testing and doing more of what works.

 

Have you had any experience with them? Which niche are they better for. Is it ok for... say escorts web 2.0 site?

I did not know they make it clear it is an advertisement review. I don't see any indication that it is an advertisement at there sample review. Or did you mean something else?

i mite actually consider reviewme, i wont go crazy on it though as i think i'll mainly look at bringing traffic in from banners and word of mouth (although its hard to get word of mouth recommendations when no ones talking about the site) ill get a few well known bloggers and well known internet blogs to review the site also buy a few text links but from there i'll look into adbright,adengage and payed banners.

It would be good if i got alot of traffic from stumpleupon, digg and delicious although i dont exactly know how to get a good story going about the site...

ill be doing alot of offline marketing, iv orderd 15,000 stickers that come on rolls of 500 so im waiting for a truck load to arrive i'll distribute them all over the world and we'll see how it goes.

also there is a massive music festival here in England (Leeds fest) iv got 800 people lined up to wear promotional t-shirts i'll get alot more once the site has launched

Go where your audience is. Start campaigns throughout Myspace and websites related to yours, build a Squidoo lens about it.

Consider this, I own a traffic exchange. My most logical place to find people interested in my program is other traffic exchanges.

Try to work that thinking into your campaigns.
