How to sell a website?

Discussion in 'General Business' started by SamPeterson, Jul 17, 2010.

I have been developing a website (www.kaibutsu.net) for quite a few months now, though I have to go back to college in August. I will not be able to further develop it and I need tips on how to sell it. I currently have no idea where to begin. I have found a few websites, but they require money (which I do not have).

The site is a virtual pet game with completely customizable virtual pets, some quests, and a cash shop to actually make money off of the site. There are various features that have been implemented, you would just have to check out the site to see.

Anyways... any help is appreciated. I spent a lot of my free time making the site and I am sad that I have to drop it so suddenly, but I would at least like to find someone that would like to continue improving it.

Make 24 more posts, and post an ad in the B/S/T > Sites section at DP :)

You also can sell it on Flippa.com,
    or in sitepoint's marketplace.

If you need some money for listing, as long it is below 3$, i will gladly help you for free( i don't need any commission)

How many players do you have? Revenue, Page visits?

What does the script actually do, how mature is it, and how easy/difficult would it be to expand it?

How much time and money have you spent on it?

Having a look at it now, assuming its a somewhat functional hobby project with a few dozen players, it would be a waste to sell the site.

The script might be worth something however.

Is there any real reason you have to sell it? Consider getting a partner to continue on with what you have already built.

You could use the BST here but do yourself a favor and be sure to detail it out as much as possible... Looks like you've got a potentially viable game going here... As said by NPSF3000 above, you might be able to benefit from a partner, angel investor, or other private party that is willing to assist you in getting the game where it needs to be and to continue development.

As someone stated earlier, for a game with this much potential, spending a few $$ at Flippa might serve you better than DP.

I wish you the best of luck!!

Yeah, DP is free to sell at...also there's warrior forum but that's $20 as well like flippa, but you should save up some cash because if your site is really good you'll get top dollar there. Also you could put up a salespage using a free blog with a paypal link and then put the link to your salespage in your signature at various forums and promote that way.....just an idea.
Anyways... any help is appreciated. I spent a lot of my free time making the site and I am sad that I have to drop it so suddenly, but I would at least like to find someone that would like to continue improving it

Always better to sell offline and to present the business and not the site only

You probably already heard about Flippa. It is the largest online marketplace for websites.
