How to Sell rare photos of North Korea

Discussion in 'General Business' started by Beijingseo, Oct 13, 2010.

    Hi DP members,

I have been sitting on a set of about 900 photo's that my friend took on an inside trip to North Korea. About 300 are typical PyongYang and about 600 are from a 13hour road trip to the other north east corner of the country. They were all taken while his minder was asleep from a canon digital camera (regular not professional).

Does anybody have experience out there with this type of business or any suggestions for me? Thanks alot in advance.

Start contacting major news sources. I'm sure one of them would be really interested. Maybe Time Magazine?

It doesn't take long to make an e-bay account.... Plus if you're serious about making money then the time investment is probably worth it.

I'd contact major news sources that would potentially be interested in doing an exposé. Time Magazine, Newsweek, NYT, and lots of others come to mind.

Like others have said, if there's nothing newsworthy, unless they are super high res pictures, you won't get much for them. However, contacting news outlets will probably be your best bet.

you could either look into selling them on ebay or.... just get a free gallery wordpress theme and upload all the images there, make sure you watermark them with the website url and then if people want to buy them from you or use them in a publication or something then they would have to pay you. On your website put advertising on there and you'll be fine :D you could also create a blog and write about north korea or the subject in hand and it will earn extra revenue for you, :D

newsworthy: media (bargaining tips: don't talk about the price unless they approach you)
beautiful sceneries: pilot guide blah blah
    nothing: istockphoto

First you should start contacting with major news sources. I'm sure one of them would be really interested. Time Magazine

I believe selling them to news agencies such as CNN or BBC is a good idea.

    shutterstock, fotolia, etc.

or build your own website, setup a photo gallery and market them yourself for a few dollars a download.

if its not professional high resolution photos - or something of news interest, news/media will NOT be interested, sorry.
