    I agree. You'd do totally different things if the business were a directory, a retail site, a portal or whatever. $20k would be spent in vastly different ways.

    i would utilize this much of amount to get few of my projects setteled...
    most of them are owning a good brand of website which is loved by everyone (GOOGLE too)... and to promote them by different methods so tht they can fetch money later....

    I would focus on your target market & do it by using more than one channel of advertising. I use TV ads, radio ads, SEO and of course text links. But, TV have had the best turn out for me. So, like it was said before, it would depend on your site and your target market. Advertising a website is highly dependant upon the type of site that you have.

    advertise in huge communities with banner & link ads as suggested already, make a brand should do well i suppose.

    i would hire a great coding and design company to realize a unique idea you MUST have.

    i would then just start advertising with adwords and banners on high traffic related sites.

    And just watch the mony come in.

    I would spend $50 to buy a domain name and build a web site and have it hosted for 2 years. I would put the remainder on my mortgage.

    $35.00 on a Domain Name! Go to godaddy and change the nameservers.

    I would stay clear of Adwords as well. It works but you have to really work hard to get it targetted.
