Huge image file.. what to do?

    My new logo/banner has a .jpg file of 55.4 KB :O ... however the JPG file has one of 22.2KB..but it gets very dithered..

    What can I do in this case? Do I keep the huge JPG file or try to remove the dithering and keep the GIF file?

    im not sure that i understand what u want to do. but you can download irfanview and when you save the file, you choose the quality. i think 80% should do it and give you a reasonable size for your logo/banner.

    Well I created it in Photoshop. And when I save it as a GIF, all the colours dither out, because GIF can't support it. But when I save as JPG, which does support the detail, the size is enormous. So is there any way I can keep the detail but save it as a GIF, so it isn't lost?

    try saving as png instead, anyway 54 kb isnt that big

    The logo here is around 8 KB.. loading on a page with other images.. it slows it down..

    55KB is nothing if it's your main header image. I regularly have 80KB headers. If your header looks crap, then your entire site looks crap.

    Hmm, I found some strange in Photoshop.

    Why does a GIF saved through the 'Save As' option, turn out to be a larger size than a GIF, of the same image, saved from the 'Save for Web' option? :O

    try png, would usually produces nicer looking images and low file size.

    can you link us the file? maybe we can help.
