I am a Beginner and My Site is exploding w/ traffic (ad placement help)

Ok here is the background:

Name: www.rhonettajohnson.com (based on american idol star)
Age: 4 days (including today at 5:30am)
Traffic Details: 216,000 hits
9800 uniques

As I speak, we are being linked to (referred) by totalcrap.com and our traffic is exploding at 5:30am, I imagine it will do much better!

Now. I believe fundamentally our ads are not in the right spots and not as frequent maybe as they should be. Please take a look at each of the pages and let me know what I can do. I think the keywords could use fixing and different ad blending would be nice.

Also anything besides adsense you recommend to use? Thank you so much in advance!

ugh try to use amazon as an alternative (link to cds and stuff related to pop idol, ull get 5% commision for every sale)

 

This is our first site. We just started doing this after reading these forums and other sources for months. We divulged into it after seeing her explode and got a ton of traffic quicker than we expected. Now we are concerned our ads are not the best.

 

yea definately try amazon as an alternative (amazon do pay, and it seems ur site has a potential to bring in money from referals)

also try to sell links here on the forums

I may be daft but here are some observations:

referer of 9800 uniques in 4 days is a directory with no PR and no alexa ranking.

rhonettajohnson.com is 4 days old with no PR and no alexa ranking.

9800 uniques and 216,000 hits = 22 hits/unique.

All I can say is "AMAZING".

Crusader and Roman1: The reason for the great stats is American Idol is always a top rated show of the season and millions watch it. Last week they featured Rhonetta throughout one show plus a special highlight. She was not a winner but a definite attention getter.

JetsDonWankey: I give you credit for having being quick about spotting a hot topic and grabbing a domain. This site will continue to do well for at least the beginning of the Idol season. If other shows pick up Rhonetta like they did Wiliam Hung in season 4, you better get ready for even more traffic.

Try to grab as much info on Rhonetta you can and expand the site at least a few more pages (more chances to get clicks). Maybe create a "dress Rhonetta" game or something unique. If that's too hard how about a funny voting page every week like: what outfit should rhonetta wear today? and create some photoshopped images of Rhonetta in crazy outfits. That would be really funny and maybe get you even more traffic. How About what kind of Dog should Rhonetta get? Or what kind of car does rhonetta drive? Have crazy, funny ideas and have fun with it yourself.

I definitely think some Amazon Idol links for music or books is good. Maybe some stuff on trampy women LOL!

LOL i dont watch AI...but thanks for sharing this funny stuff! I'd suggest experimenting with taking the skyscraper and making it into a rectangular ad beside the video. Since you got lots of hits, it should be easy to test for CTR.

 

These kind of sites will be out of fashion before you can say.........

I agree 1000% that's why I want to take advantage of it while we are getting huge traffic. 55000 hits today since mindnight, that is not gonna last all year.

 

Your adsense if being served some good ads related to the show - hows your earnings performing?

I would start setting up channels for each adsense block and see which one is paying well, if you havent already done so.

Just a suggestion - You may want to consider changing the 250x250 block at the bottom to a 728x90 banner.

I see there are lots of comments made recently, great job!

Congrats on your quick success! I've had best luck with 728x90 banners on the tops and bottoms of my pages, which are heavy on text on most of my sites. I can't say that any of my sites have generated that kind of traffic though!

Set that money aside and don't count on it to continue; I'd be prepared to lose the domain name if she comes close to winning.

 

In that case I would make the ads highly visible and embed them within the content without the borders.

 

Congrats on the traffic. You've got a one-trick pony here that is going to live a fast short life. You need to act FAST to monetize that traffic. My guess is that people will visit primarily to see pictures of RJ. Google ads about AI may not interest them but then there is nobody advertising specifically about RJ. Actually I just did a Google search and saw a single ad. Unless you can sell RJ wobble-heads, you may have a hard time making money on this one.

 

Your ads are showing public content ads. You probably need to add more content (text) to the page to get non-public service ads.

As an update: The site is losing some traffic, again 15 mins of fame never works, but this site was only a 1 day project. Thanks for all the help
