So my wife and I went out to lunch, and when we came back, checked email.
    And I got robbed!!!
Someone stole my ebay account and used it to bid on a bunch of crap, then stole my paypal account to pay for all that crap!
Now in the midst of a battle with ebay and paypal over this theft!
Did call my bank, and they will reverse any charges to paypal.
We are talking big bucks here!!!

Might calm down over this by tomorrow!!!

Caution...ebay told me that for me to change id and password, etc.
    Same with paypal.
Did so at once (heck, I used new usernames and passwords that are unreal)
So, if you have an ebay and/or paypal account, it would be in your interest to go there now and change user/passwords.

We were sitting down to do the taxes, and noticed $4,000.00 of paypal charges from last spring on our online banking statement that were not on our Paypal statements.

We started freaking out for about 90 minutes until we realized that Bank of America screwed up and listed every debit-card transaction for three months as a Paypal transaction.

    Whew!

I hope your final outcome is as much a relief as ours was.

    Good luck!

Bank of course is taking care of everything.
So far, though paypal shows the transaction went through, the bank does not yet show it.
If it shows, the bank will reverse or stop the transaction.
For a bit anyways, paypal can not access my bank account until I let the bank know.

Of course, ebay and paypal emailed me that they are checking out the transactions, etc plus checking for fraud.
A new transaction at ebay, but they can not access my paypal to get the money for it!
Good thing I put in new user/password, etc at both.

Okay, paypal has locked features of my account so that no one can now access the account and transfer funds, etc.
Of course, that means I can not do so either until the dust clears.
I can receive payments into my account, just can not use account to pay for anything or to transfer money to/from bank.

They gave me no time on when I can retrieve the money from the bank.

Only way I can come up with is this:
I bought earlier this week from an individual in Malaysia.
    Paid him via paypal.
The company that is crapping me shows to be based in Singapore.
Now so far, this is what I have found from ebay and paypal.
Someone used my ebay account to bid on stuff for sale from the Singapore company (not yet known if one and the same, but I would tend to believe it).
Then had paypal pay that company.
Again, who stands to benefit from all this?
The company in Singapore does, only way I can see it.
Trying to convince ebay of my way of thinking is like hitting a brick wall.
Simply because this company in Singapore is a power seller for 5 years, etc etc.

Anyways, except for a small amount in paypal, nothing else will be lost as my bank is taking care of me.
    Gotta love small town banks!
Only 2 blocks from here and they know me by name (even the president of the bank!).

    Different user/passwords at each.
In fact, just last month had changed my paypal password!
Now I am known at ebay as xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (did you know you can have almost unlimited character name?).

Sorry to hear that happened to you, always change your passwords about once a month and never use the same password for both sites.

Wow, I am amazed that this happened to you. It almost sounds like you have somehow managed to fall into a phishing trap. Otherwise, I cannot see how that company or people associated with it would have those user names and passwords. Changing them, however, is a good strategy.

Unfortunately, some of the programmers involved in phishing schemes are very good and some are capable of awfully subtle tricks to get you to the wrong location on the web.

Happily you live in a town where people know one another and they will stick together to stop the bad guys. Good luck sorting all this out.

Looks like things are sorted out now, was your password easy to guess or maybe the forgot password thing was easy?

Hmm.. you sure you didn't get phished in an email?

If I were you I would start checking your computer for spyware and anything out of the usual. If they got both passwords they most likely have something installed on your computer sending them all kinds of information.

    Did not get phished.
And yesterday, found out from a few people that their account have also been put on restricted use by paypal.
You can read the email I got from paypal.
From what we can put together, somehow paypal got hacked into and quite a few accounts were compromised.

I never click on a link emailed to me that has anything to do with paypal, ebay, my bank (which has yet to send me an email in over a year), etc.
I always type in the url of where I want to go.
