    Akismet isn't a competitor?

I think you need to rethink your sales spiel. You should tell people what you are going to tell them, then tell them, then tell them what you've told them.

Instead you talk about a mod you've done for vBulletin to link other forums to your forum but the links in that mod (including your signature) are all broken. You introduce the MLM aspect but I'm not sure why or how it's revolutionary or how it's going to help me sell "stuff" better than I currently do.

Hello sarahk, thanks for your post.
I really don't get what you mean by the input above.

Thank you, I updated the link

I mentioned a couple of current solutions and "others". Akismet is included in the "others".
Thy are working in the effect. We will be working in the cause.

Yes, I included the aspect of MLM, this way we can help website owners to monetize their free content while helping to keep a free spam environment. Although. Is not required to resell to use the service and is not required to buy for websites to use the Api, it is free to use. The service has its own value for websites and users even if you resell or not.

It is revolutionary because there is no current solutions to address the problem from the root.
How could help you sell "stuff" better than you currently do? I don't know how you do it now, But I can assure you that you could sell more if you could be exposed to more people outside of your current circle with a global reputation system.
Ebay has a very good reputation system, but craigslis for example don't. How useful could be a global reputation system if I could identify those spammers in craigslist? Or give the craigslist buyer the opportunity to check that I am not a scammer?

Thanks for your input. Did I answer your questions? :)
    Thanks..
    ~Mike

I guess I'd rate Akismet above both reCaptcha and the forum tool but that might just be my own bias. It does a great job on this forum.
Regardless of the type of seminar I've been in, right from school through to professional development that's been the mantra for selling, essay writing, etc. My kids have had it drummed into them too so it is still relevant. I'm really surprised you haven't come across the concept before.

I guess I get what you are trying to do. Like your forum members directory you are trying to create a database of all web users and assign some sort of trust rating to them. Users who comment or enrol in things but who have a low trust rating may end up moderated while users with high trust ratings will be recognised as such.

Leading on from that the unique way of selling isn't really a way of selling at all, we'll still use the same type of systems but the verification of buyers and sellers will change. If eBay or Craigslist decide to come on board they won't need to change the way they list things for sale, they will just be displaying a trust rating beside people and adding further checks when people register or post.

I just checked the kickstarter page and couldn't see much difference.

In the About section I'd have it flow like this
    • 1 paragraph about what it actually is
    • history - all that stuff about you running forums, but distill it.
    • Details - an exec level summary of the project
    • Benefits for site owners
    • Benefits for regular web users
    • The nuts and bots - to keep the techies happy
    • The business model - how you are going to do freemium with a bit of MLM thrown in - but keep it really simple. Give more info on the webpage
    • How the money will be spent - $100k seems an awful lot for something a bunch of techs could do in the evening
Limit the use of bold, no need to yell.
Would be interesting to know why you haven't attempted to collaborate with Gravatar or a similar existing system. My husband discovered Disqus for the first time the other day and freaked out about how it was confusing and he didn't know what to do (and he was just looking at a comments box!!!) Don't overestimate the technical skills and confidence of the average web user. Getting them to get on board is going to be really, really hard. Somewhere on the sites that utilise your system they are going to have to declare their information sharing even if they don't need to be as "in your face" as Disqus and that will take time to get to a point of critical mass.

sarahk, I liked so much how you described it that I would like to ask your permission to use some of your phrases in the project description.
    Can I?
