Okay I'll try and implement some changes within the next two days. So if I forget to do so, feel free to remind me everyone :) I'm curious to see if we can turn things around for Happy Horror!

Great tips, btw, I'm really pleased with all your responses!

    No worries.

Like I said before, I am not sure how wordpress works but I do see your Analytics code at the bottom of the page.
The page does take a while to load and if someone stops the page before it is fully loaded it may not register as a visit. (thats a guess by me, I may be completely wrong)
But I don't think that would happen to often to have any major affect on your stats. you may be able to put the code in the head. there is a guide in the Analytics website somewhere.

Having said that, I don't think the stats Analytics are giving you would be to far out. Your (dare I say it) Alexa rank puts you at about the right position for that many hits a day, and says you have more than doubled your traffic over the last 3 months.

Even though your traffic is on the rise, I would still be looking to find out why it has not been getting much traffic all this time..EG:Is there a noindex tag getting attached to pages.. or Is wordpress making two pages of every post and you are getting hit with some sort of dup penalty or something?
The reason I say this is that I started a site on May 23rd, So its just over a month old. and my site has nothing on your site.. And I mean Nothing.
I know my site has nothing to do with horror but for the amount of words on my site compared to the amount on yours is.. well not even worth comparing.

I think your site should be getting lots of long tail key-phrases and the like.. after all you built your site the way we are all supposed to. (for the user) but for some reason you are not getting the traffic that you should be..

    any way.. back on topic..

A 160x90 or 180x90 link unit in between your pages links and feed burner stats might go alright as well :)

    Cheers

That's a terrifically insightful post, tattoos! See that's what's weird.. I figure at the Alexa rank and PR we've got it'd be low traffic (how low is low I have no real idea) but what you said about long tail keywords? We get MASSIVE quantities of that according to the WP plugin I run... it's showing stuff that's actually in the articles and everything. I'm wondering if there's some sort of dup penalty, also.. and for analytics that's odd I could've sworn I put it up in the header...

Oh and slow loading time.. I think that's due to the YouTube videos.. I might need to put those under a "click more" kind of link...

Got me thinking, man so big thanks! And that's amazing traffic you're getting, too! Congrats!

To just confirm, why not you install one more stats on your website e.g. may be Histats. They are good and I have used them for a couple of times. There is not much difference in google analytics and their figures. (No two stats can EVER be same). So I would suggest giving it a try to confirm your doubt on Analytics...

As I scrolled around the main page, I noticed you have a huge amount of content just on the main page. I would shorten the number of posts/content on one page and make the users click around. This exposes them to more ads. I would also replace the link units at the top with a letterboard like was previously suggested.

I've checked out your site and it seems that you are using a modified version of Kubrick. Maybe you should invest in a custom-made template which is Adsense optimised? From my personal experience, it is really hard to monetise Kubrick, it is only after I changed it that I then had some improvements in my Adsense earnings.

I am thinking of getting a new theme for the site but it's a little tricky because the last time I attempted a theme switch (on another site) a lot of things got screwed up so now I'm a little gun shy in that respect. I'm also thinking it'd be pretty expensive to do that and actually get support for the theme but I'm open to suggestions :)

Oh and as for promoting the site that's definitely something that would help. I've done a little SEO work (directory submissions, etc) and also spent about $100 on Adsense but none of that's seemed to help a whole lot. Any suggestions in that arena?
