    Experiment with placement, blending the ads into content and with the site's colors, and run channels on different placements, colors, sizes etc. to see what works best for you and your site - each is a little different.

    Read the TOS over and over. Realize that they are serious about violations and they can/will suspend/ban you for a long time/forever if you violate the rules.

    Once you do that go back and do it again.

    Sometimes less is more.

    Just because you can place 3 ad units and 1 Text link unit per page doesn't mean you should.

    Try moving your ads to different locations and experiment with different layouts. Remember to keep track of the success/or lack there of for each attempt.
