I have this website http://www.html-site.nl On the main page i have a ctr about 0.9% - 1.9% which is quit low i think. i've tried al lot, f.e. change colors of text, borders, background, but nothing seems to help. what should i do in your opinion?

I would put a 728 adlinks leaderboard unit at the top, below your header but before your content, and make the url links blue like your site's link color. Do this for the entire site. For your single page articles, I would embed a large rectangle box (or 250x250) into the article, at the top,and either left or right align it. I would get rid of the skyscraper banner if you plan on using the embedded ad as recommended above. Finally, you can choose to a leaderboard banner at the bottom of your article. But if you insist on keeping the skyscraper, either remove the "advertising" label, or the "sponsor" label below that. One is bad enough, but having two there screams "Ad! Don't click!"

    Here's a visual aid:

    Ouch!

Site is nice yes, but try 3 things for a start:

1 - change that red to blue like other links
2 - move the top links (your links) unit to the left next to the ads
3- put all that stuff on the left closer to the body.

You should really use the 336 box embedded in the article idea. It's a keeper. Converts insanely well in thick article pages.

Nice site and the ads seem to be relevant to the technical site content. However, tech visitors are notorious for not clicking on ads. So, to encourage as many clicks as possible, I agree that you should use your 3 ad limit and place 336x240 ads scattered on the page.

People are obsessed with CTR. Has your click gone up? What about your earnings? CTR can be skewed by a lot of things, including an increase in traffic, etc. The only number that matters is the one underneath "Earnings".

PS. Where exactly are you using my suggestion at? I don't see it anywhere...?

Yeah but where is it that you are implementing my suggestion? Don't use my name if you didn't follow my suggestion.

You got rid of the skyscraper and that's it. I didn't even tell you to get rid of the column, just the skyscraper. I told you to ad an adlinks unit at the top, not a leaderboard banner. I also told you to add a 336 (or 250) embedded into the top (left or right align) of your article, and you didn't do that, either. I even took the time to snap a picture of your site and drew where the ads should go so you would better understand my suggestions. You took off the skyscraper but that's it. You didn't do anything else, so don't "beg my pardon". Either do what I told you or don't do it, but don't use my name when it doesn't work.

yeah its getting better thanks to the help of jackburton2006. i'm only not sure if i should display the ads on the left in red or blue. i've got the idea that it is better in red.

You might want to consider getting rid of the skyscraper banner altogether. When i went to your site, there are no ads for the 336 boxes, just for the skyscraper. Since Adsense reads from top to bottom, it's delivering ads to your skyscraper first, and blanking the 336 box because there isn't enough ads for it. Also, did you try using a 728 adlinks unit instead of the 468? Or does that ruin your site's template?

P.S. You want want to implement Adsense's collapsible feature. It will get rid of that giant, blank white box when there are no ads to be served to it. Read more about it here: https://www.google.com/support/adse...tx=en:search&query=collapsible&topic=0&type=f
