    I am absolutely hopeless at web design but I've had a lot of experience with Google ads and what improves CTR. I do really well with this site: www.cheap-and-easy-recipes.com

    This page http://www.cheap-and-easy-recipes.com/recipe-choices.htm and the recipe category pages that flow on from it all have very high CTR's. The ads are barely noticeable from the text. I've found this works best.

    I've eliminated a lot of the diet ads from my site (even though I would no doubt make more money from them) because I feel people who are looking for recipes don't want to see ads telling them how to lose weight.

    I have another site on which I only do a tiny little bit of Google ads in the DIY section. I know we are not supposed to say what our CTR rates are but this particular page does incredibly well. See http://www.heritageceilings.com.au/articles-for-thought/Above-Ground-Pools-For-Ultimate-Swimming.htm. Notice how the colours blend in with the rest of the page colours. It's dead simple but it works.
