Ideas For Unique Web Based Christmas Presents?

As the dreaded time roles on, I was thinking of some ideas I could do for a few family members come Christmas. Rather than buy them more crap they don't need I was thinking I'd give them something a bit different.

I was thinking of maybe setting up some stuff on the web for them, with AdSense attached - and signing them up with their own AdSense accounts. Maybe some off-the-peg content sites or some nice domains to park with programmes that would pay all year long.

Does any one have any similar or different ideas about what could present a good long term small income for non web literate family members? Is there any point buying cookie - cutter sites or is there an alterntive.

Failing that - anyone got any other unique gift ideas? If I don't do this I'll get charity vouchers like normal - rather than waste money on useless crap. :D

I bought a couple of family name related domains and put up photo gallery software so geographically separated family could colaborate on geneology things. My idea was if everyone posted pictures etc. at one central point everyone would benefit.

Unfortunately, everyone thought it was a great idea, but no one did anything. The problem I think is that if they are not web literate they don't see any value and they never think about it.

As far as Adsense income is concerned I have trouble getting my wife to think its real. Its more like magic that happens every once in a while for no rational reason. Certainly not dependable like a job :)

In some ways its understandable; I still have trouble believing words I wrote five years ago keep generating income.

I think your charity vouchers is a good idea.

I did a web site for my sister. Web content is hers but I have to do all the html content generation from her ideas and image editing and or creation.

I think a genealogy web site is a good idea but suspect you will have to do it and have to have them send you what they have online. I am sorry I did not pick up more surname.us domain names when they first became available. Since for those of us residing in US domain name implies US genealogy of that surname. By time I though to this the ones I wanted were gone. Possibly dot info domains might be available. Another genealogy idea would be to do a Power Point presentation with images and facts on ancestors. This could also be placed on web or on CD. Converting a Power Point presentation to a series of web pages is not ideal but you family might overlook slowness. With Katrina and now Rita we all see value of duplicating and distributing precious family photos and family Bibles. My mom's house received major water damage. The first things moved to my home were the irreplacable picts and Bibles. I have brought most back and a plumbing leak upstairs got one of the Bibles wet.

A family birthday calendar would be another idea. Once again for identity theft reasons would want it password protected. On birthdays you could make a special page with pictures and write up on birthday person.

A forum on a password protected directory would be a good way for family to keep intouch. You could post activities in only one place and alert the entire family.

my family dosnt know anything about websites and stuff (like im the only one computer literate as of the moment) so i dont think they'll appreciate if i made them one.

so i think i'll just buy a new dvd package cause we love watching movies and maybe ordering some classic ones on the net too.

    Sounds Like A Plan, Dio!

But If I Gave That Gift To Any Of My Friends Or Family, They Would Laugh In My Face. They Don't Even Know What Adsense Is, Let Alone How To Run A Website.

    So They're Getting Socks. :p
