...how can it be used to make money?

One of the things I have read is a person should focus on one area to master. If a person chooses SEO as this area of focus, how can this knowledge be used to earn a significant passive income, and what other skills must be added to SEO to accomplish this?

 

Your will power and Creative, learning mind are sufficient to accomplish SEO...

If you become at SEO, you could help your site/s get more traffic and reach rank 1 in the SERPs. You can also hire yourself out as an SEO specialist and help other website owners for a fee. You can also start your own SEO company. There's plenty you can do if you become great at SEO.

Thank you. I was not actually asking how to become great at SEO but rather how one can use SEO knowledge to make money. It seems like aside from hiring myself out to perform SEO services, I can profit by creating "monetizing" websites that rank highly from search engines. I suppose then my next question would be what are some of the best ways to monetize a website?

 

Here are several tips/advice that come to my mind after over a decade-long SEO experience:

1.constantly stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technical evolution, coding... it changes so fast that it strongly affects business - 6 months is a very long time, even 3 months, so don't lag behind
2.discuss issues on forums - you'll be surprised how many other alternatives and opinions and issues there are... it's always good to ask others' opinions
3.always reinvest a small portion of your profit - don't just consume, consume, build a serious business (don't just take the money for yourself, but "feed" the business)!
4.make sure you fully understand the latest Google policies and algorithms - very important! (I can give you additional info on this, if you PM me!)
5.create brand awareness, build a brand don't just wait for visitors to drop in
6.focus on developing a serious business, money will follow - many make the mistakes of doing things the other way around and if money doesn't come fast, the give up!
7.only do things you like, things you understand - it's the only way to succeed in life
8.monetize your sites adequately - make sure you don't overfill with ads, but don't leave unexploited opportunities either
9.build networks, make clients loyal (stimulate them to return), otherwise plain SEO traffic might not sustain long-term profitability...
10.use social media: facebook page and social bookmarking tools are the minimum to have!
11.focus on creating unique content for people, not search engines

If you consider yourself a perfect SEO then no need to ask here about earning, you have plenty of options to make money online.

You can create your own service website and offer services, you can optimize keywords and earn money from Adsense, affiliate programs etc. there are many ways, I would say.

 

I know nothing about SEO. The point of my post was to decide whether or not SEO is a good place for me to start learning. I wanted to know if I learn SEO and become good at it, how can I use this knowledge to make money.
