If you had 3 months to work fulltime on building a web income what would you do

I'm in the fortunate position to be able to take 3 months off the 9-5 to concentrate on my own web ventures. I'm planning on setting up a few more sites with different revenue streams and want to open an affiliate shop or 5.

I'd love to hear what other people would do if they had the time, and also from members already in the fortunate full time self employed webmaster business.

Might as well use this thread to say thanks to an absolute truck load of DP members that have given me the confidence and knowledge to walk out on my job for 3 months, especially Shawn, T0PS, YFS1,SEBasic and all those I've not mentioned and I can't says thanks to others and not include MELLA, E10 or Lady666 for bringing snensible or just damn funny female posts to HM.

    Cheers
    Al

Maybe my terms were a bit too UKish. Like many folk I have a fulltime job (AKA 9-5) but I'm fortunate enough to be able to take 3 months off (unpaid) to work on my own stuff, so what would you do with 3 months if you could devote it to your own sites and future sites.

noppid, you should probably have been included in my thanks list as I've learnt and laughed a fair amount at you posts :)

Create and install 10 wordpress blogs very quickly on 10 niche themes...

then start WRITING like your life depends on it.. morning till nite for 3 whole months...

by the end of the 3 months you should have enough content for google to start noticing... and then put google adsense all over your blogs...

then, this starter income will keep you 'alive' as you expand and pursue other projects online...

That's a good and interesting idea, I have been planning onsomething like that to feed links and traffic to other sites.

How close are you to making a million so far?

I agree, to play adsense, you need a writer and alot of domains and topics. The shotgun effect.

I'm loading my shells with more and more pellets every change I get.

Thanks for that kind compliment as well. :)

Please forgive a novice question... why blogs as opposed to web sites?

Is it easier to promote a blog? (quicker links, more resources et...)

I've never gone the blog route because I type too slowly and can't imagine having enough time to maintain even one blog.

What I would recommend is a good affiliate relationship. Despite all the competition it seems to me that the best opportunity is still in selling prescription drugs online. I currently am making over $1,000 US per week from my drug store site. I wrote about this opportunity in this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=6996.

Several DP members have signed up as affiliates and while I don't know how each of them are doing I do know that the affiliates under my site are selling a lot of product.

I have a 9-5 job but can skrimpingly afford to take a 3 month sabbatical, so want to give my online income as big a boost as possible.

Currently I'm building and/or aquiring largish sites for Co-op and links benefit and using those to promote more profitable sites. I remember Shawn saying he makes more from Commission Junction than Adsense, which is the route I'm looking at taking. I still think Adsense is great but do expect my CJ income to surpass it sooner rather than later.

Primarily for the content management benefits and speed of creating new content.. If speed is the primary issue here, then blogs might be a good way to go..

I am a long ways off.. but all the plans are in my head. :)

My biggest recommendation is to diversify your online income. I have read too many of those "my website lots it's ranking now I have to live on the streets" posts.

Make sure you have a plan to make money from a few sources not just one or two. The way things happen in SE's you don't want to find yourself at a family members house begging for food. ;)

I have a few outlaw family members that would absolutly love it if that happened  . Diversification is something I'm a fan off, at times I think yeah I could build my Adsense up to this xx,xxxx easily with a lot of work but I'd much raather have 10 sites making x,xxx from different revenue sources, not putting all my eggs in one basket and all.

    Well, great question DCT!

And thanks for the kind words. I´m guessing I am the sensible member of the female corps because Mella´s flighty, Lady´s just too damn flirty (isn´t she, Darren?) and they are both very funny.

My experience with CJ was pretty dismal thanks mostly to the fact that at that time most of the sellers were not interested in publishers on the other side of the pond. You have other choices in the UK and you might want to compare which of them are offering the best service to the UK.

Thanks e10, I'm hoping others gain as much as I do from the sort of answers I'm seeing in this thread and yes you are the sensible one I suppose (congrats on the selling your PR5 mother :))

I did CJ for years and made nothing but all I did was just a post a link here and there and expected the world to come begging. Since putting the effort in and learning from others (often here) I can really see the potential with it, I love Adsense, but I think I'm going to have multiple happy affairs with friends of CJ.

Well my original site was very geographically limited whereas a couple I have in the pot now are not so it may be time to look again at CJ and what it offers. :)

I just posted my latest results to that thread. Why don't you go to that thread and ask them how they are doing. Hopefully you will hear some success stories. My total affiliate base is now selling about 10 orders to my one. Since I get a 5% commission on their sales I need them to sell 20 to my one to double my income. Seem entirely reasonable given the success to date.
