illustrator help

    hello,
    how can i do such thing in illustrator? to take a letter, modify it (like cutting a part of it) and then giving it an effect like glow?

    (I did this in photoshop)

    Firstly you would Clcik the "D" text then click convert to outlines in one of the top drop down menus.

    then draw a thin rectangle the size that you want the break and lay it ontop of the text.

    then open the "pathfinder" window.

    highlight both elements then in the pathfinder window click the second buttom in from the left on the top row.

    then click "EXPAND"

    for the glo:

    copy this layer then hit "CTRL and F" or for mac "CMD and F" then hit "CTRL and [ " or for mac "CMD and ["

    then click EFFECTS in the top drop down menu and go to "BLUR" "GAUSSIAN BLUR"

    and from here you can choose the amount of blur you want.
