I'm getting adsense ads that are not related to my site!

    Hi,

I have a forum about mobile phones and mobile technology. The forum is run on Invision Power Board. I have placed google adsense code on the forum.

However, instead of seeing mobile phone or related ads totally unrelated ads are being shown. For example, the google ads that are shown are things like 'Immersion calendar' 'fertility calendar' 'Dr Crash Sail Calendar' and 'free Psychic reading' etc.

What's wrong and how do I get the right ads in.

    Thanks

The ads will be picking up on keywords placed with the html on your site.

I saw an example recently where a guy had a heading about "protect your future" - he was into money, but was getting military ads.

It could always be that you have a calendar on your site?
Or that the fertility guys are targetting words you wouldn't expect

You need to review your site and make subtle changes.

the best thing to do is just create more content strongly themed to your topic. Adsense will learn.

I have a ice hockey goaltending site using InvisionBoard and I still get some wierd ads. On one discussing goalie equipment I see ads for San Francisco tourism. San Francisco is not exactly a hockey town.

Sometimes adsense can ignore the ten thousand keywords that will target ads to your site and obsess on some tiny word buried deep in your text. I had huge hassles on one page about the history of London, and there was the word stove buried deep in the text of one page, and all I ever got was damn ads for pizza ovens! LOL

I would have thought you would be getting bombarded with mobile phone ads etc as its a high market for Adwords.

As sarahk said "the best thing to do is just create more content strongly themed to your topic. Adsense will learn."

Do you have many posts in the forum? Also check your logs to see of the Google Media bots are trolling your site.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I can see what the problem is.

The page that we are having the problem with is the forum main page which also lists calendar events and brthdays of our members.

I will try to strengthen the 'mobile related' content on that page.

    cheers,
