    Hi,

I would like to put together a community type website where I can have a business listings section, shopping, restaurants, automotive etc. Also need to have a calendar for events. News section, banner advertising, weather info etc.

I'm trying to find something basically plug and play, don't want to install anything from Cpanel. I would like full control over it, prefer php and MySQL

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Brian

    Thanks for the link,

I went over there and could not really find anything that caught my eye, there was a lot of junk, invalid links and the such.

Stiil looking, if anyone has any other ideas.

    Thanks

If you want to put a community you will need a combination of scripts, not just a CMS, a cms will be the primary news and updates script but a competent forum, chat and modifications will be needed to build a complete community, these combinations can be easily and less expensively be integrated into one simple LOG IN and SKIN, integration and content are crucial for a successful community.

    I recommend the following combinations:

    Subdreamer/IPB/Flashchat/Modifications

    PhpNuke/vBulletin/Amfchat/Modifications

    Joomla/IPB/Flashchat/Modifications, plugins and modules

Pm me if you are interested in my solutions, I can guide you in the right direction.

Thanks... these are the cobinations I usually use for my clients.

The CB module works great for Joomla sites, but what you really want to do integrate Joomla with a forum instead.

Depending on what kind of website you are planning to build, the possiblities are endless if you know what you are doing and how scripts work.

Thanks guys for getting back to me on this.

    EJRaven,

So there are options, yes!!! I sent you a PM a little earlier.

A lot of the community type webs out there look like they are all custom built. I just need the guts and I can do my own front end.

    Thanks again.

    Hi EJRaven,

I just wanted to follow up with you for leading me in the right direction.
I had tried Joomla before but struggled with it, but I new some how a CMS
could be built with Joomla and plugins.

I did build 2 sites with Joomla and now have to start adding content.
    You can see them here.

    www.PinalExpress.com

    www.Arizona-Dining.com

Anyway, thanks again for your help and leading me in the right direction

I can see you went with Joomla and the modification to integrate the forums.

Great choices and very decent websites as well, I like what you have done.

    Hi,

Can I ask ? Is your Arizona Dining site done purely with Joomla ? Or does it use any add-on modification ?

    Hi fischermx,

The items that I used were Joomla add on items

    Here is what I used.

For the business listings I used - Sigsiu Online Business
    http://www.sigsiu.net/

The template is called Cleanlogic, I can't remember where I got it from.
The link in Joomla says http://www.provisionstudio.com/
But when I visit that site I cant see it.

You will have to do a search.
The colors were originally blues and I changed the CSS to reds and burgundy

    I hope that helps.
