image folder vs theme image folder

    I am building a wordpress site for a client of mine and I was wondering the following...

    Should I keep my regular images and my theme images separate or should I combine everything together in the image folder of my custom theme?

    I'd keep them separate. If you change themes or who knows. You'd then have to chicken pick which images to keep/delete etc...
