Impressions and Google..

I have recently had a lot of time on my hands and I'm designing a website that will eventually have about 1500-2000 pages by Spring. Since I will be testing the website as I'm programming it myself, I was wondering if Google would be pissed off with the numerous click that I would be doing during testing. I really would hate to replace an image where the code goes to substitute and then displaying pages. After the site is up, I would have to go back and edit 3 codes per page. LOT OF WORK. anyway around it?

 

If you're talking Adsense...don't click your own ads. Ever.

 

Im not talking about click my own ads,( I never generally do it) I more talking about impressions. I may be loading these pages a 200 times a day or so especially when working with 3 web programmers.

Opinions?

 

You could run adblock in firefox so that you don't see your own ads. That is, unless the removal of ads would affect the design of your webpage...

I've never had any issues with what you're talking about and I've generated thousands of impressions on my own sites during testing. When I can I just leave Adsense off until I'm done but that's not always practical.

If you're at all concerned I would suggest firing off an e-mail to Adsense support and letting them know what you're planning and aks if it's ok.

This scared the crap out of me. I never knew this. The recommended options in this article are not practical for me. Desgined a web site this large especiall when it will be approximately 1500 pages website is a serious issue.

I sent an email to google, yesterday and no response yet. They do take a long time to respond.

 

Will viewing my own site create invalid page impressions?

You're doing the right thing - better to ask ahead of time than to find out after the fact. Like I said, it's never been an issue for me but the "GuyFromChicago said he did it" answer won't carry much weight if Adsense pulls your account.

It sucks, but waiting for an answer from the Adsense team is probably your best bet.

Ok got a response from Google Team:

Thank you for your questions. I will address both your concerns in order
below.

1. If you would like to deactivate your impression and click reporting
while you perform site development, please add the following line of code
to your AdSense code:

google_adtest='on';

To have your clicks register again, simply remove this line of code from
all your pages.

Wow, that's a helpful bit of information that seems to be undocumented on the google adsense page. At least, I don't think it was there the last time I looked. Maybe someone should add it to the list of 27 tips and tricks.
